Long range load development at 100 yards.

I appreciate the help Gentlemen :). I may run the test again with some different powder. I can only find VV540 in 1 pounders.

8 one pound cans hold the same amount as one 8 pound jug. ;)

Erik, that is true. No need to switch up powders yet. I'm gonna give another go after I tumble the brass and load up.

Thanks Again!!

My turn. Here's a target shot with my 270 win using 150 VLD hunting. Using H4831, Winchester brass, wolf LR primer. Don't pay attention to 130 IB load.

Load left to right: A-56.5gr, B-57.0, C-57.5, and D-58.0 grs. Loaded jam -.020"

Looks like 57.0 grs to me as center

good shooting there. 29.3 appears to hit lower.

Erik-- when testing for accuracy should a "normal" shooter :-[ repeat the test to verify or go with what the target tells you then move on to seating depth test? Same with seating depth test?

Just curious as it may help others too to know

We are all "normal" shooters. ;)

Depends on your confidence, if shots broke clean then move on, if you have any doubts, confirm again before moving on.

These all appear to be same place vertically, although a bit erratic. Adjust seating depth on 57.0 gr load and see how good it gets, if not satisfied, run test again using best seating depth. Good luck.

I don't have the targets posted up but I did a test similar to this at 300m with my 6x47L FO rig. 39, 39.5 & 40gr AR2209 (H4350) shot the same place vertically on the target. I went ahead and loaded up 24rds of 39.5gr 2209 behind my 103gr Copperhead VLD with 10 thou jam and shot around 3/4 XRing in vertical on the 1000yds ICFRA targets. I'm going to do some grouping test at 400m this arvo after I get a solid no wind zero but I'm happy with this method and I've proven to myself that it works even if I did do the test at 300m initially.

This is my load as it is now:

103gr Copperhead VLD 10thou Jam
39.5gr 2209
Lapua 6.5x47L necked turned for .264 loaded round. I have a .266Nk in the chamber
CCI-450 Primer.

Thanks a bunch guys.

Interesting - to my eye the test stopped a little short...maybe previous testing had shown above 29.3 there was pressure. I would be interested in 29.4 and if possible a 29.5...the expectation is that they would change POI slightly and start to open up again, putting 29.3 at the best place.

In part I say this because both 29.3 groups hit at the same POI...the others all had some measure of POI variation between them, but the right hand 29.2 group is sitting very close to the same POI as 29.3 and both 29.2 groups were well formed.

If 29.4 showed pressure then 29.2 it is...but I have always found it hard not to pick the middle group when using 3 groups for comparison under this criteria.

If you look back a few pages youll see that this was shot after a load testing from 28.1 to 33.6 and then playing with seating depth, just narrowing down closer to the end.

Sure - post was an observation rather than a criticism.

New Load test today, Savage FTR 308, Kriger 30" 1/10 heavy palma tube. Varget, Lapua brass, FGMM 210 primer, 185 Juggernaught 25K off the lands. On the 5th target i shot a 45gr round (circled in blue) I transposed the hit on to the 6th target. I love 44 and 45, not sure what to make of 44.5? Eric what do you think?

thx Ted

Thanks Eric, I will run some seating dept testing and post back. My big quesiton is why do you think the POI jumped from right to left on the 44.5?

Ted
