Long range load development at 100 yards.

I would reshoot 66gr-67.5 neatly with .3gr intervals and 5shot groups to make sure your fliers are just that, "fliers.." You have a load in there somewhere..

Yea, sorry... The way I judge some targets is by a quick glimse method.. I've found that to much looking at first can cause you to be to complicated, that's why I keep my targets neat/clean so I don't have to think to much... Also I've noticed that if you'll leave a target laying around your reloading area for days and out of the blue just look at it sometimes it will let you see things in the target you never noticed before... I like studying my targets over a time period and if I have a question I'll just go out and shoot another test...

284 shooting Berger 168 VLDs with H4350. I was thinking 52.2 and 53.2 and try seating depth changes.

Thoughts?

between 52 and 52.3 and 53.2 and 53.5 are definitely possibilities. Got any chrony data on those groups? The lowest ES would be the one to go after.

What!? The reason you see things on your target you didn't see before is because of your "quick glance" method.

Chrono data would easily point out the best node.

If I was you I would shoot something above 47gr. to see where that final group wants to move to plus see how big that node really is.. It's a great node, you couldn't have a more stable one.. After you find out where the node goes away just baqck back down some if velocity is your goal... But from what I see there, your node is starting at 46gr and going up or through 47gr... Reshoot this test with small increments before deciding on a load,,, shoot in increments of .3 at least like, 46, 46.3, 46.6, 46.9, 47.2gr from here and lets see what they look like..??? Okay? You may find middle ground at 46.8 and have the best of both worlds, velocity plus accuracy/precision!!!

And skip over seating depth tuning?

I have noticed you give advise based on what you do personally and not based on my reloading method, which is what this thread is about. If what you do works for you, great, but it's not the point of this thread.

You may be trying to help, but all it's doing is confusing shooters that are trying to learn my method because your advise is not consistent with my method.

So what do I do now? This was shot on 15 power (forgot to wind it up to 40x on the scope- been shooting too long with a fixed power scope). I could re shoot it with the target board fixed properly as per the 52.4gr charge, and on higher magnification, and with a set of wind flags to make the groups smaller?

Chrony velocity gave an average respectively of 2810, 2827, 2858, 2871 and 2907 fps over the 3 shots for each group. ES was hard to pick any clear better charge over the other. All were between 5-10fps for the 3 shots. I like having these first world problems to deal with ;) By the way 2209 is H4350 in the USA.

Work on 52.1 while adjusting seating depth and then go back and do the final .1gr. increment testing.

Erik, could you please have a look at my target few posts earlier?
My only chrono data are some shots at 46.5gr with 2760 fps

Thanks!

46.5 might be a good place to work on, but I would like to see what it does above 47.0 is pressures allow.

Eric can you have a look at this and make a recommendation where to go next. I like between 49.0 and 49.5 but between 50.5 and 51.0 also show promise to me.
Your thoughts?
Bottom left target not included in the test.
Steve.

Work with 49.3 and adjust seating depth. After you tune your seating depth, go back and test from 48.8 to 49.8 in .1 gr. increments to find your node bounds.

Good luck!

If you find this method helpful in any way, think about making a donation to this great site.
Thank you.

I've come back to this thread a number of times since it was posted and decided I harvested enough to warrant a donation to this site.

Does this method have a name yet? ;)

EC load development method. ;)

Here are groups from my .284 using Berger Hybrids 180gr and H4831sc powder. All are 3 shot groups at 100 yards.

Feedback is appreciated.
