Why a BR scope level?

I attended a 600 yd BR gong match a while ago and noticed some of the rifles had scope levels, If ur rest was level and the scope is perpendicular to the stock then what is the need for the level?
These were flat fore end BR stocked rifles riding in Farley and SEB style rests.
Thanks. E

Take your gun and put it in a gun vice. Then put a small level on top of the top scope turret and move the gun left and right to see how little you have to move the gun to be out of level. At 600 yards plus it only takes a minimal amount to be left or right if your gun isn't perfectly level.

The next trick is to mount the scope and scope level, perfectly level with the bore and action. You can make your crosshairs perfectly level with the horizon but it's does you no good unless your crosshairs are leveled to the action.

I have always wondered why the scope and ring manufacturers can't/won't mark top dead center. Seems like a line on the top of the scope would be fairly cheap to do.
I couldn't agree more.......I have had this thought for years. I have even tried to think of a way to do it myself, but I just don't have the tooling to be precise enough. A simple index mark on the scope tube and ring cap would be fantastic.

For a gun to shoot in the same spot your scope must be aimed in the same spot . A level will show if the is vertical from shot to shot .
Many of ways to to do it I like doing it off the scope base. Larry

Thanks for the replays, I didn't realize there would be that much deviation in the bag. And I'm still trying to figure out who that Shrodenger fella is and why he would have a cat in the first place?
