This is one of my few posts and likely my last - I lurk here from time to time searching for particulars on loads and equipment. This thread shows one of the big downfalls of boards. Endless dribble off topic by someone that has developed a reputation of simply loving to read what he types......I will join the insanity because I can't take it anymore.
Two particular quotes caught my attention from the Cliffster: "I realize my groups at 600 yards would open up to at least 6-12"".......and....."I've seen reports of 1000 yard shots make on PDogs: pure dumb luck, and extremely rare at that."
You prove your ignorance everytime you type. Service Rifle shooters shoot from a sling on a mat through iron sights every weekend. If their guns were only capable of 12" groups there should never be a 200-200 scores shot. 200's are shot often with high x-counts in variable winds by the best shooters. You need to broaden your knowledge base while keeping your keyboard locked up and unused - if that is possible. If your equipment isn't up to the task - you have the wrong equipment. Just because you can't imagine the ranges PD shooting takes place at proves your cluelessness. Your reputation precedes you, so I personally put zero credence to any load or equipment suggestions you could possibly have. I don't care whether you think the .243 whinnie pooh (WTF is that all about???) is the best ever - WE DON'T CARE. I would hope that any prospective reloaders on this forum have reliable sources for entry information rather than your senseless dribble. Your narrow mindedness combined with numerous mistakes (i.e. .177 vs. .172) show that you read far more than you shoot.
And yes, I have made 1000 yard PD shots laserd back to the truck with a .243 WSSM pushing a 107 Sierra Matchking at 3300 fps. On my first one at 1000, I zero'd up on a mound, picked the next mound over with a dog, and the 3rd shot got him. I guess it was that dog's unlucky day since it took three shots. But, since that doesn't meet your one shot one kill requirement, a 1000 yard PD hunter it must not make me. Someone on this board personally watched 17 shots from that gun thrown down as fast as I could single load them, disregarding any good bag/bench techniques, hold a 9" group at 900 yards.
But since we know the Cliffster will never go away - lets just ignore the tripe. Attention is all he wants. And for anyone who used to troll the "shooters talk" competition board before its demise - are you not convinced this guy is related to Clint Mckee of Fulton Fame???
One last thought - The NRA wants the range officer certificate back - and they would likely return your course fee, which you can then buy a book from Precision Shooting titled "Precision Shooting at 1000 yards." Then GO AWAY!!!!!!!!! I swear, he is like a car accident, You don't want to look, but you just can't peel your eyes away from what he may say next.
A fed up Lurker.......
