Tack Driver III live results

I know of one shooter, Jeremiah Keefe, who shot a 6BR, but not with the usual fast twist high BC combination. He was shooting 68 grn Barts BT’s.

I have had several friends comment that 400 yards would probably be a better distance to meld the Short Range/Long Range crowd together, but I think, from seeing how Jim set the targets out way up on that Burm, that is simply as far as he could go.
Yes Sir.... I shoot with Jeremiah twice a month, but he does have an
Achilles Heel !!.....Jeff Gates on bench 2....LOL. And at 400 yards, Jeff
is tough to keep up with. Now Jeremiah set up a Tack Driver lite for
us this past July. Same targets and rules as the original TD but we shot
it at 400 yards. Conditions at Anderson Creek will keep you on your toes.
After some conversation we were allowed to use spotting scopes at the
bench to see our hits. With an NF 15-55 and a 7mm bullet, I had no
problem seeing hits except as the mirage went nuts, a hit in the red,
you thought you had one off target. I and others made a suggestion to
use the bright white UBR targets, but stayed with the original intent
of the Tack Driver for practicing for it.

Here's Jeremiah in the back and right with typical grin, and Jeff Gates
in front and left, with the cash, from our last 400 yard Deer match.

Note....These are the place winners in class. I think we had 26 shooters
for this last breezy match of the year.

Here are a couple of interesting points when compared to last year.

This year the aggregate group sizes -for the top 15 places- were about 0.2" smaller.

Also, the final aggregate showed a significant drop (improvement), an indication that the top shooters placed simultaneously higher in both disciplines.

The trend is too solid to chalk it up to luck, I think.
Instead, my guess would be a combination of a somehow milder weather, along with a larger participation of the top short range BR shooters, and better training and preparation for this match.
No matter how we explain it, the blow out (PPC vs the Others) this year was substantial. The game is getting tougher!

But I end with a silver lining; we have a whole year ahead of us to Tack Driver IV.
BR or PPC ? I know, I know; it is not the arrow, but ..... :)

gcabrera I know at lot of our local matches there's a lot emphasis put into relay and bench assignments. If you have time, it might be interesting to see a graph comparing those statistics for the three tack drivers. My belief is once in a while you're going to get stuck in a bad relay, but I also belive the top shooters are going to prevail most of the time regardless of bench and relay

This year, with the exception of 1 exceptional shooter the top 10 ware all in relays 1 and 2.

Mike, I do not want my posts to be misconstrued.

My intent is instead celebratory, to help visualize the achievements at TDIII. Tipping our hats with infographics.
Let’s all honor the talents, the achievements, the moment.
Let’s keep it like that.

George,

I agree and don't want mine misconstrued either.

I certainly am not looking to take away from anyone or their accomplishments. I for one 100% believe the best shooters will overcome conditions and bench assignments, I just thought it would be interesting.

I attended this event for the 1st time and can say without a doubt, this is by far the best run and most fun event I've attended. The fellow shooters and the administration treated everyone equally. An opportunity to shoot against some of the best in the world and have them talk with you as an equal on an equal playing field is something I'll treasure forever. I've attended events where that isn't always the case.

This is 100% the intent of the match! This is the most diverse talented field of competitors assembled in one location! IF you think Tack Driver III was something, just wait to see what Tack Driver IV delivers!

A quick look at the distribution of relays top 10 ten overall verses the bottom 10 looks pretty much the same.

The good shooters will find away to survive a bad relay.

This year, I was on relay 3 and we had just as good or just as bad of conditions as 1 and 2. I’m not sure about relay 4 and 5.

I do believe that on Sunday, the conditions were a little favorable to the benches on the far left. But that is the way Benchrest works. Benches are picked at random, then you rotate the next day. If the bench draw does favor a certain position on the range, the shooter still has to take advantage of it.

We all might bitch and moan about a bad bench draw, but we tend to forget about all the times we got a very favorable bench draw.

And Jackie had to share a bench with me. Tell me that aint a disadvantage all in itself.

You guys got any pictures of the good groups or score targets? We like pic’s!

This Match and Range have a way of keeping the competitors on their toes. There is no point and time for you to get comfortable and throw it in cruse control. Either the conditions are changing, mirage is boiling, or the targets are changing from group to score. Everything combined makes it challenging to stay consistent through the 2 days and 10 targets.

Equipment used: 6BR .270 neck, BAT B action, Bartlien 4 groove HV barrel, Jewell trigger, McMillan MBR stock, Nightforce Comp scope, Bart’s 68 Averages, Lapua brass, N135 powder, and Fed 205M primers. All ammo was preloaded.

I know it has been said many times already, but this is a first class match! Great people, competitors, food, and tough competition. I highly recommend attending as I know I will be back and am looking forward to Tack Driver 4.

Great shooting, Jeremiah, You kicked our butts all year to get practiced up for this shoot. The Anderson Creek boys were rooting for you and am glad you did so well. Mike

Interesting neck, are you skimming the neck?

If you attended Tack Driver III, check your email. I have opened registration for the ones that attended this year and will open it up for everyone else in a few weeks. Stay tuned on here for the registration forms as I will most likely only take the first 100 guns.
