Tack Driver III

We’ll like I said in a previous post, I will be concentrating on these 2 cartridges for the Tack Driver III ,the 30x47 135 grain 10X bullets and Barts 103 Hammers in my 6x47 40 degrees Nightbirde ,I blown out brass for it today the barrel tells it wants to shoot first 18 rounds at a 100 yds give me this with some old Berger that would not perform for me in another barrel.View attachment 1335713
Stan, Nothing like giving the old 6x47 Nightbird some refreshments after a outstanding break in period. I'm pretty sure that the Nightbird will definitely earn her keep. just remember she gets thirsty after drilling one hole fire forming brass. Great shooting!! Can't wait to see what it will do after you get to tune a load with it.

Well on day two ,I decided to go to 330 Meters and to say the least my hats off to the guys that shoot score, I definitely ain’t one of them a very humbling experience to say the least shot terrible ,i held for the conditions but to much my hats off to these folks that does score day in and day out,I’m quite embarrassed to say the least ,but I also know what I need to learn great job on you score shooters for sure .
Ps I think I need to slow the speed down a bit these old eyes had a tough time seeing those 6 mm holes.
Thank goodness I have all summer to work on this game.

go back to a 30, a bigger scope
go look what nearly everyone said about 6mm holes at 330

Practice score at 100 and use plenty of sighters. If the wind changes a bit shoot another sighter to see where to hold. These games teach the importance of using sighters not just blindly running them as fast as you can. The most important thing to learn in benchrest shooting is when to stop. The second most important thing is when to start. There are conditions out there that give you plenty of time to get your shots off and sometimes you have to wait 2-3mins for it to come back

What scope that is a 12x42 night force plus I’m shooting right handed an I have always shot lefty eyes are given up on left hell to get old. LOL
i am right handed but shot left as i am left eye dominate and could not wink my left eye. then in the 2000's i had a detached retina on the left eye..surgery failed...6 times. i had to lear to shoot righty. my right eye had no clue what to do when i started. it takes time. i am a crappy wind shooter, but i watch and a try. and no i would look at a march, valdada. i am goign to go post right now..what is best on a heavy long range br rifle.

Hello everyone.
Excited to be part of the upcoming Tack Driver III.
Had a chance last Saturday to work on the tune of a 6BR I’m planning to compete with.
Here is a pic of that nice evening session.

Greetings from Cincinnati,

George

Thank you Jobhopper66, it was indeed a great day but time flies while at the range, we all know that.

The 6BR seems to be working OK, but not sure it is up to the par yet.
Haven't shot a 6PPC or a 30BR for a good while now. We used to have a 300Y match over wind flags, and I remember those were the two calibers to have, very readable. When things align they create really nice bug holes at 300Y.
Would like to see people post what they are getting on paper in preparation for the Tack Driver III match, as I am on the fence of whether keeping the 6BR as is, put a new barrel on it, or to switch altogether to a 6PPC.

My gun has been showing lately some vertical at our local matches. As I suspected I was loading the rounds a bit too long. Long story short; lazy me, I used to measure OAL at the tip of the bullets, and now after several bullet lot#'s the OAL to the ogive ended up too long. I am now measuring at the ogive to avoid this OAL drift over time.

This was at the end of the day, with very mild switchy headwind. Still more vertical than I want to see, will try to do another trip to the range and then make a decision.

I am really leaning toward shooting my 30BR this year.

I finally chambered up a 1-17 Bartlien for my 17 pound Light Gun on my Bat M action a while back. It really shoots about as good as you can make a 30BR shoot. The 17 pounds knocks the recoil down considerably.

My 104 grn 6mm bullet is just not working that well. To put it simply, it doesn’t shoot like a Benchrest Rifle should. . Ed Bernabeo and I are trying a few other things with it, we still have time, but right now I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s really discouraging.

Of course, I always have the 6PPC…….

One of the last conversations I had with Stan Taylor before his
passing, was the work he was doing with the 30x47. It would
be nice to hear if anyone else pursued this.....??
In this Format, (Tack Driver), a higher powder capacity 30 could be viable due to the 22 lb weight allowed on the rifle. That much weight absorbs considerable recoil.

It is still a game of ultimate accuracy, or precision, at the 300 meter distance. BC rarely comes in to play. A shooter with a .200 rifle that has a good read on the conditions will be difficult to beat tegardless of the size of the bullet or how much powder is pushing it.

I just wish I was a better shooter.
