Powder Prices Are Shocking

This is what we get for "hiring" a bunch of senators and congressmen (and congresschicks) and letting them stay in office for twenty - thirty- forty years for the love of Pete -- until they become comfortable at taxing and spending our money in ever increasing amounts - for things that are guaranteed to cost ever-more money than they promised - to accomplish undefinable goals which usually destroy our freedom. jd

I don’t think a lot of people realize that taxes did exist not too long ago. Now you get taxed on earnings from work, then when you buy goods with the same money your already paid taxes on and you get taxed again, then you get taxes like property tax. It doesn’t take long for that money to get widdled down to nothing.
Don't forget certain sites will report you if you sale more than $600 worth of goods you paid taxes on when you bought them to pay taxes on them again as income.

So much for no double taxation.

I found out that the small city I live in offers a substantial discount
There should be exemptions for city, town, county school etc taxes. None required by law but they are there. Usually the school taxes are by far the highest and like other property taxes the exemptions are set by % of disability.
I live in the tax capital of the world! Am I an expert on tax exemption for disabled vets? Well for NY I probably am. Oregon, no.
But most states run close. It’s the school tax that’s usually the killer.
PM if you feel like it and maybe I can discuss the tax exemption situation for Vets.
They greatly vary just within itself:
Veteran
Combat Veteran
Service connected disability
Etc etc
Tenacity wins!

Not that shocking. Its been that way for over a year now, where have you been??

Just comes down to American corporate greed, nothing more. Absolutely ludicrous what this country has come to since the whole "covid" scam. I can't wait to retire and move to Mexico where the US can suck it and gets no more of my hard earned money...

Mexico is a shithole country on the same level as South Africa. The entire country is run by the drug cartels.

Anybody even thinking of moving there needs a serious dose of reality.

If it's so bad here for you, then why wait? Just leave now.

Given the reduced attendance at many of the matches, I can't help but think that economics are a big part of the reason for it. Whether it is the cost of components, fuel, lodging, or just the general cost of living, it is plainly having an effect. I am definitely shooting a lot less centerfire than I used to, because the cost takes a lot of the fun out of it.
It's kind of funny in a way. Back when I was shooting a lot of BR and travelling to matches, I was paying 10 bucks for a thousand primers and five for a can of powder. A Hart barrel was 70 bucks. The thing is, at that time, I was poor. When I drove down to Issaquah to shoot, I did so in a 1964 Comet I had purchased from Rent-a-Wreck. So, when it came to spending discretionary income, I was spending it all. Now, 44 years later, I'm sort of well off, I guess, but I suffer greatly from sticker shock every day. If I travelled and shot the same as I did 45 years ago, I would not have to spend anything like all my discretionary funds, but it's difficult to not feel like I'm getting bent over the counter (figuratively speaking) when I buy a can of powder.
Like I said, high costs take a lot of the fun out of it. The real problem with all of this is that it puts competitive shooting and reloading out of the reach of the young guys all of our sports need to keep them going. At one BR match I attended, anyone looking to talk to "the old guy with a white beard" would have had an abundance to choose from. The firing line looked like a Santa Claus convention! The young guys trying to support a family are being priced out of many of the venues because they can't afford to travel to shoot or waste the money putting shots down range. Still, I guess this is what they call 1st world problems. WH

Yup. As bad as it gets, there’s no place better. A few years ago, I had considered Argentina. We stopped there on a cruise. Beautiful cheap land and good gun laws. If I remember it right, a local told me I could buy 500 acres and build a nice house on it for under $500,000. The land and flora reminded me of Pennsylvania in the 60s. Large farms and few people. The tour gal said immigrants got 3 months to become self sufficient and prove they had income to support themselves. If not, then we’re kicked out. If I were a younger man, I might have gone for it

Americans too often fail to understand that in America, our Constitution lists the PROTECTIONS one has as a citizen. You leave our borders and you are subject to the laws of other nations. Just look at the horror stories when Americans break their laws. One minor fuckup here, could cost a person years of their life and untold dollars over there.

Something about these higher reloading costs, and the larger
turn outs in the shooting events I attend ?? Lot's of us Pa. Boys
and Gals, are just not getting rattled yet.....
My solution......about a 100 shoots a day, benchrest, with a springer air rifle. 3.5 cents a shot wnith good pellets. I shoot 20 meters. Guns will shot in the zeros and ones at that distance. Just as satisfying as powder burners. No reloading, very minimal cleaning. Triggers under 2 oz if you like light. For the price of having 1 barrel bought and installed you can buy a competitive springer. Really stretches the powder burner components out.
