Price extreme for powder !!

What amazes me is that there are guys on this forum that act like the high prices for powder are just fine and understandable, but they don't seem to be able to afford $10.49 to become a Site $$ Contributor ???

That would be $10.00 for a minimum donation and $.49 for the stamp.

Dead on....

There's an old saying in regards to business, "you can shear a sheep a lot of times, but you can only skin him once." People who price gouge because of the use of fear will not last long doing that. Barlow

Don't feel too bad......here in Australia we pay double that for primers !

Here in Australia we get gouged for most things shooting related. Small market, plus a monopolized importer set up...

Our powder prices haven't gone ballistic (pardon the pun), yet...

At least, Australians can get Varget!

I think one thing that is not being seen is that for some smaller businesses there is only so much they can get. places are restricting the amounts you can get per shipment. If the price or "margin" is the same but you can only sell 10% of what you used too because
1- you can't get enough to keep up with previous demand
2- people hoarded it up and now don't have anymore money
That means you go out of business. Also prices for some things are on the rise. not 50% but in some cases it is 10-15% more and companies and distributor's are adding fuel surcharges and extra "shipping and handling" too.
so I think it's completely within reason for a $23.99 lbs of powder to be $28-29 now.
I don't think it's right to completely take advantage, but in the same respect it's there prerogative. And if I shopped on line all the time and now that things are bad walked into a store I couldn't expect a deal or be mad. maybe the good pricing is reserved for the smaller dealer die hard customers??

Made and sold here as AR2208 and sells at around the $44-48AUD per 500grams. It usually is cheaper in the US.

I think a major part of the problem is the manufacturers. When you decode their business cryptospeak it says that they are unwilling to invest in new capital equipment to increase production because they feel the demand increase is "temporary." With their refusal to add more production, it maybe a self fulfilling prophecy.

this practice hasn't hurt the gas companies or the companies producing OSB 10 years ago when then price increased 300%

I think the prices on powder are fine from where I buy. How many powder manufacturers are in the US? The last I knew is that most in the US were distributors and such

Last time we knew there was only One powder company in the USA {Winchester}
IMR is in Canada Most of the Hodgdons are From Australia The exception s are the ball powder.
Most of the others are from Europe. There is one in Israel some accurate ball i think

I am in business for myself, that means I only get to eat what I kill. There is a difference between reasonable profit and gouging. These choices are up to the individual, and the excuses made to justify they're actions.I will say this in the last 20 years the actions actions have become despicable and the excuses even worse!

It amazes me how some of you don't get the concept of a free market.
Like I said before, the market dictates the price, not the vendors!!!

+1.

If you think something is overpriced, then don't buy it -- that way, you don't get "gouged". And if Powder Valley holds the line on its prices, then buy from them... until they run out at least. When shortages exist, prices HAVE to rise for reasons already stated. No vendor owes us anything at a certain price. Just like no customer owes a vendor any business.

And if you really want to address the underlying problem in this case, unseat the anti-gun senators and congressmen that are the real culprits for the panic buying that has left us with this component shortage.

Was at a gun show here in Texas a couple of weeks ago. Bought several pounds of R-22. It was $30. I was thinking it was pretty high until I saw prices on this post

I know this is mostly a forum for rifle guys but I've encountered the same steep prices with pistol components too. When you can find them, they're pretty outrageous.

This past weekend I found some new 10mm auto brass for $35/100. That's just unreasonable in my opinion.

Was at a gun show over the weekend in Harrisburg, PA. I was shocked at the price of gun powder... 5 pounds of RL 15 $250.00 US !!! Wholly crap !!! Wholesale price is $87.00 from my connection !!! To say the least it sat on the table !!! If you can find RL 15 what prices do you see for 5 pounds ?
Still in sticker shock !!

Sounds just like the going/gouging rate for a brick of .22LR !
