Price extreme for powder !!

Jay Christopherson said:
if people are posting at those prices it's because morons are buying it.

I appreciate a company like PVI and will remember when conditions change to a buyer's market...

EXACTLY correct IMHO. :)

To the OP, I bought 5 each one pounders of R-15 for $28/# at a local store just about a month ago. They told me that they didn't expect to see any 5 pounders for a while yet. WD

I think a major part of the problem is the manufacturers. When you decode their business cryptospeak it says that they are unwilling to invest in new capital equipment to increase production because they feel the demand increase is "temporary." With their refusal to add more production, it maybe a self fulfilling prophecy.

A big thank you to Powder Valley. Just took delivery on CCI450 primers at the old price of $30/1000. Another supplier is advertising them for $37.50. P.V. will continue to get my business. A first class operation. ;)

Don't feel too bad......here in Australia we pay double that for primers !

Here in Australia we get gouged for most things shooting related. Small market, plus a monopolized importer set up...

Our powder prices haven't gone ballistic (pardon the pun), yet...

Just received my order for an 8 lb jug of IMR-4064 for $169.00 before haz-mat and shipping.

I had to wait almost two days to get it after I ordered it.

Natchez Shooters Supply, you guys rock. PVI rocks too.

Jonbearman @ Pacificman I agree with you guys 100% remember the bums and I will never buy anything from them, call it free market or whatever you want it's taking advantage of people and the situation. Company's like PV, Natchez,Midsouth will always get my business.

another funny no business owner.
you seem to not understand supply and demand.
and that THIS is TEMPORARY demand....manufacture do not get to buy temprary facilities and equipment, nor do they get to pass on paying unemplyement when they lay off due to reduced demand.
their stock holder will not be happy when the dividend goes away to pay for idle equipment....
very short term view.....not practical at all.

I just paid a hazmat fee of $28.50.

Paying HAZ MAT and shipping never bothered me when you could get a FULL order, but times have changed, now it's max 50 pounds and $28.50 + handling + shipping......at least twice a year 3 or 4 of us would put in an order and normally get everything we ordered........ahh the good ole' days!

If it's all about supply and demand then why is PV, Natchez, Midsouth etc. not charging the same jacked up prices as other Businesses, my guess is they can still make a fair profit without hiding behind some excuse to jack up the price of there components. They have the right to operate this way but the people who think it's wrong have every bit as much right to not drop a penny on there door step >:( >:(

It amazes me how some of you don't get the concept of a free market.
Like I said before, the market dictates the price, not the vendors!!!

If you don't believe me, take a pound of Varget to the next match and put a $100 price tag on it. NO ONE WILL BUY IT!!! Now, start bringing the price down and eventually someone will buy it. If there is a lot of interest the price will be higher than if less people (market) are interested.

If you price it at $40 and there are 10 guys interested, how many guys do you think will be interested if I pull out 10 lbs. of Varget at $35.00 each?

So, vendor does not dictate the price, the market does.

And please, I don't want to read any more of the "If I had a store..." arguments because you don't have one, and the reason you don't have one is because you think that way.

What makes you think people don't get it? I would assume that people get it and just don't like it. That's where I stand. I understand the concept completely and I STILL THINK THE PEOPLE THAT ARE GOUGING FELLOW SHOOTERS ARE DEAD WRONG IN THEIR ACTIONS!!!!!! The wholesale price hasn't gone up 50% or 100% and neither has the cost of living so why should the cost of the components go up that much on the retail end?

It's not a "supply and demand" or a "free market" issue, to some shooters. Those concepts are as basic as counting to 10, so anyone that made it past 1st grade should be able to get it. It's more of a moral or psychological issue. Shooters don't understand why their "buddies" or fellow shooters are taking advantage of them and it becomes demoralizing after a while. You become frustrated because your "buddies" aren't helping you, they instead are hurting you. Most shooters want to look at shooting like a brotherhood almost. Like we are all in this together and we'll help each other out and get through it. Then you have some guy show up with powder at an outrageous price...... it's human nature to look at him like the devil.

And yes, I DO own a business.

What amazes me is that there are guys on this forum that act like the high prices for powder are just fine and understandable, but they don't seem to be able to afford $10.49 to become a Site $$ Contributor ???

That would be $10.00 for a minimum donation and $.49 for the stamp.

Exactly ;)

We're giving the liberals EXACTLY what they wanted all along. To STOP people from shooting and STOP kids from getting interested in OUR sport. Been to a local range lately where EVERY weekend there were lots of kids plinking with 22's. Not anymore!! At my local public range attendance is down significantly. Possible shut down talks happening. Have you seen much junior shooting lately?? NOT ANYMORE. Cant get 22's and even in high power junior participation is shrinking considerably. Have you gotten someone interested in shooting in the past and taught them reloading and now they have stopped because they can't find components. I can name 7 friends that no longer reload. They find another hobby.

Let the hoarders hoard, let the gougers gouge. Soon enough many more OF US will get fed up and walk away.

Let projectiles go to 75 cents each and powder get to 50 dollars a pound. Then the hoarders and gougers can enjoy the ranges still open, and the shooting matches still being held, all to themselves.
