Long range load development at 100 yards.

From left to right is 43.0 and goes up to 44.2 in 0.3 increments. Top right target(44.6) has 3 in one hole and the one shot out. Looks like 43.6 to 44.2 are my powder window.

Hi Erik,

Back again..this time with Varget, RWS brass and scenar-L 175.
What is your review on this one? Is the 43,5gr would be the node?

Thank you very much

Try to tune 43.5 and go from there.

Next time, try some 5 show groups and see what it looks like. It would be easier to read if you didn't have a flyer in each group... at least the gun is consistent! :o

Hi Erik,

Thank you for your input.

What causing this consistent flyer?
I'm using body dies and neck dies, and I can feel the neck tension is ok when I seat the bullet, I get 0.002 variance..max.

Thank you

Neck tension or seating depth?

No Im in Australia. We use the kongsberg electronic target systems (and also other systems) for our 300-1000yd and 300-900m palma and F class shooting. They are very handy for load development and club shooting, but while they are good for these, there are plenty of variables that need to be controlled and understood when it comes to using them for long range shooting.

Another question I have been thinking about for a while and might be of benefit to the shooting community.

Assuming your do some form of barrel run in, how soon or at what round count are you happy to start load testing at? Given barrels sometimes seem to speed up at 100-200 rounds, are you happy to do the work early then if the barrel does speed up then use a chronograph to re tune back down to the original speed?

I tune early and use chronograph to re-tune if barrel speeds up.

Shot this one this morning in a bit of fog.

Erik,

One thing I like about this method for finding a node is I can concentrate on holding vertical, and not pay attention to horizontal. I shoot off a heavy portable tripod bench similar to Rick Jamison's design. While it is very stable relative to other portables, it is not a concrete/steel fixture like at our regional shooting facility. With my bench, any slight wiggle will be in the horizontal. If I can concentrate on holding vertical it leaves me much more relaxed and able to focus on technique.

^^ No chrono numbers. I'll shoot 23.1 next chance I get and see what turns up. Actually loaded them up prior to your post. :)
