leveling a scope

Can I set a level on the bottom portion of the rings after there attached tothe rifle. Then set the level on the scope turret to level the cross hairs...is this a good way to level my scope?.. Is there a better way with out wasting my money on some new gizmo..

Level the scope when you take it to the range. Put up a target at 50 or 100 yards, use a longer carpenter's level and hang the target with true horizontal & vertical edges.

Make sure the bench top, and your front rest are level, line up the crosshair with the horizontal and vertical edges of the target and snug down the ring screws.

The easiest and quickest way I've found without buying more gadgets, many of which do not work as advertised. Keep it simple, works everytime.

How do I ensure the rife it self is level..I would think setting a level across the bottom portion of the scope rings would be the most accurate.. Or in my case I could set a level on the scope base which is a picatiny style PRI base Mount.

This scope has been discussed hundreds of times on various shooting forums. Probably thousands of times.

If you have a picatinny style base on the rifle, then mount a level to it. Lots of options here; Google for one. Once you have the rifle level and plumb, then hold it that way in a vise. Then use the suggestion mentioned above. If I cannot get to the range, then I'll hang a long level on my back fence, and align my vertical crosshair with it, and ditto when putting the level in a horizontal position.

But if you don't keep a level on the rifle whilst shooting it, then you're only guessing that it's level, even after you went to all the trouble above. 8)

From a leveled stock, level the cross-hairs to a plumb-line (at distance).
All points in between are irrelevant (action, rail, rings, turrets).
