I've also found that the chip breaker in the ground and polished aluminum inserts doesn't work on SS so you end up with a bird's nest.

You need tactical flip flops for proper barrel work. Oakley makes them(aaron slowly removes and hides his crocs)
I use polished Trigon for Aluminum when roughing. With proper speed, feed, and DOC you can make the chips break like golden springs. Dry on SS 416 barrel.
