While you're waiting on your machine... it's a good time to search ebay for 1.25" material. You can get a box of cutoffs that are a 3-4 inches long for cheap. Get some aluminum.... get some 416 stainless

I've also found that the chip breaker in the ground and polished aluminum inserts doesn't work on SS so you end up with a bird's nest.

I use polished Trigon for Aluminum when roughing. With proper speed, feed, and DOC you can make the chips break like golden springs. Dry on SS 416 barrel.

You need tactical flip flops for proper barrel work. Oakley makes them

Try the rubber mats with holes in them. The chips fall through so you aren't crunching them in your soles.

Man I just got a new insert to try and so far it’s banging… Iskar insert. Looks like it’s polished after a pass.

That is very similar to the ones I use. Great finish. Easy to break the chip. I run 8-900 rpm turning shanks. .035-.050 depth of cut.
