+1. Very nice stuff. Mesa Tool makes a index threading bars too, but uses carbide inserts. AR Warner will set you up good. I'm close to them, so I can walk in when I need something. Took in some index turning holders I had that used carbide and wanted HSS. They matched up the right insert for me and they work great. No worries about chipping and easy to sharpen back up.

I use the A Warner threading tool also, and they make triangle inserts out of HSS for turning too. The Viper turned me on to those.

The carbide is very fragile, be careful. Carbide also doesnt like slow speed. I thread at the lowest speed I can. Some guys thread at crazy speeds. It causes me to kick my dog and drink excessively knowing the speeds they use. I constantly agonize over their speeds. HSS is great for slow turning. Warner is the ticket. Got 'em, swear by 'em. Quit using carbide years ago (too expensive) when they shatter. Did I mention some guys thread at crazy speeds.....gotta find the dog, poor fella LOL Good fun

X Ring that was a good laugh thanks. :) All of my turning and threading tools are Warner and I like them a lot.

Look at carbide ticn coated inserts. Very good, not cheap but good. There are a ton of decent holders. Look at MSC's on line catalog & you will see a lot of options. Kennemetal is a very good choice as well.
