Garmin chronograph

well, lets say about 8. we were practicing using every other target with our shot markers, so a 600 target is 6 min wide, and the space between. so center to center not more than 8 min. i was aiming at the center impact area on the berm between. We are blessed to have this range and the people that keep it going.

8 Minutes is about 0.13 degrees.
I doubt one could point a Garmin to 0.13 degrees.
The beam width is many degrees and detection range is a couple yards for a bullet.
Point it to within a couple hundred minutes and you'll be fine.
Nice looking range.

Thank You, looking forward to your full report of the results and how you then calculate the BC.

Finally the wx has broke and we have dry. I went out yesterday to scout for a 1000 yd LR test spot and found all with too close a back stop or with a slight downward angle to target which would not work for the 20-40 yd bullet fly by. I finally found one that will work well but it is 1390 yds. I guess the longer the better for estimating bc as long as bullet remains subsonic? My calcs show 1160 at 1400 yds. Touch n go but will give it a try. 2.25 sec flight time!

Yeah that is going to be close. What are you shooting and what load?

Yes I know but I can drive to the target so no huge effort! 6xc 115 dtac nose ringed. If it works then I want to compare to non-nose ringed out of curiosity. My loads are all good at <20fps es and single digit SD so planning on trying 10x for first experiment. The biggest challenge will be to get target set, tun on the Garmin and then make it back to the bench before 30 minutes timeout! I will be shooting 3/4 mile across a canyon so not exactly a direct route to get to the bench! and not blacktop roads - rough dirt and rock! I could bring a friend to hang out at target side but I prefer to do this stuff alone.

I don't think I have left the Garmin on for longer than 30 minutes between shot string activity. Where di you get the 30 minute timeout? It's either not in the user manual or I missed it (quite possible!).

I set it on my desk and waited!

As you determined in 30 minutes the screen says Radar Timeout, Radar disabled due to inactivity, with the options Rearm Radar or End Session. Wait another 30 minutes and the screen goes blank and unit shuts down.

They could put an option in the settings for the timeout clock, that would be nice.

It can probably be done by pushing the buttons in a specific sequence but they probably dont want these functions getting out to the public.

I found another spot which is 1000 where it will be easier to make it back to the bench. I decided the nearly 1400 yard one is a bit risky as the bullet really starts running out of poop fast past 1200.. 1000 is plenty far enough for a 6mm!!

I missed a shot on my last trip to the range when it decided it wanted an OS update in the middle of a 5-shot string.

I found a rifle/load combo my garmin absolutely struggles to pick up…its very sensitive to positioning. I shot 4 other rifles on the same bench and garmin position for all of them, a 257, 28 nos, 300 wsm, 458 win mag…all shots captured. Cup and cores, solid coppers, no issue.

My 6.8 western with factory browning 175 gr sierra tipped gameking…i fired 20 rounds and caught 7 of them, the last 3 i got after finally finding a position it would capture.

Its weird cuz it had no problem with my 257 shooting 110 tipped gamekings or my 28 nos shooting 165 tipped game kings. Never missed a shot on any other gun.

What’s everyone think of the garmin chronograph after using it for awhile?
Top notch unit. I couldn’t ask for a better unit. I have not dropped a single shot since I got it and I’ve fired a grand total of 1231 shots through it. My labradar dropped 1 out of every 15-20 shots.
