6.5 Grendel Bolt Gun?

Bully

Silver $$ Contributor
Who here has a 6.5Grendel bolt gun?
I'm looking at the Howa for a fun little project rifle. I love the cartridge and what it's capable of in a tiny little package.
I'm not totally opposed to the Ruger American, but it seems a bit less "refined" than the Howa. I'd love a CZ, but I won't pay the money people are asking for them.
Thoughts are to build a stock for whatever I purchase and use it as a fun gun for paper and maybe pigs. 16"barrel, threaded. Run it suppressed. I have a nice little Weaver 1-3 to put on top(for now). Just a really easy little rifle for putzing around with. Mostly just looking to keep my hands and head occupied.
Looking for thoughts and pics (I love pics).

I had a spare Savage model 10 collecting dust. It was originally a 6.5 Creedmoor that I had pretty much considered shot out (~3k rounds) accuracy was waning and speed slowing down a bit. So I decided to rebarrel to 6.5 Grendel. Ive been hung up on these short little super efficient cartridges lately.
Conversion was simple. Just swapped bolt heads to a ppc / 7.62x39 diameter bolt face. 24$ part. Shopped around for prefit barrels, but no body I found offered them in a Grendel. Finally came across Shaw barrels.
Not wanting to invest too much into this project, I took a chance on one of the carbon steel barrels. Had them spin up a 1" bull barrel 22" long cut for savage threads.
Already had a NSS barrel nut and recoil lug.
So I was into this project a grand total of about 240$ for the barrel and bolt head.
I couldn't be happier with the results.
Super accurate. Can push a bit hotter than gas gun data. Very mild recoil. One of my favorite rifles to take out and target shoot.
If I had to do it again I would probably go a bit lighter profile barrel so taking it in the woods wouldn't be a chore. But overall very happy.

Have since had the muzzle threaded and Cerakoted everything. Not sure I'm digging the cheek riser yet. Just put that in there

I have a Ruger American. Not very smooth feeding. Probably a 3/4-1moa gun. For the price, a decent gun. Would work well for piggies and deer.

The Howa Mini has become my go to Coyote rifle. This thing is stupid accurate and will shoot the 85gr Sierra into one hole with almost bench rest quality groups. It will honestly shoot groups in the .3s without even trying. I love that gun. The 85 grainers rarely exit on a Coyote as well. Its an excellent combo.

CZ527 or Howa would be great out of the box bolt guns.
Brownells has a promo right now where you buy 100$ gift card and get $25 extra gift card. Grab a few of those and combine with regular promo codes / black Friday deals. Should come out pretty dang affordable for the howa

I have the 6.5G in a ruger predator American.
I run it suppressed for coyote, deer, goats, the Sierra 85g is fits up for coyote, for deer I run noslers 100g hbt.
It clover leads both loads at 100yds, moa at 200to400, no complaints at all.
I have to be fast on clambering a round, if you go slow like other actions it hangs up at the chamber.

I have/had a Ruger American in 6.5 Grendel. It was fabulous. I should have left it alone, but I rebarreled and restocked . I went to 6Grendel and it is still a work in progress.
I could have left it alone for quite a bit longer.
It performed way above its price.

+1 love the Howa; HB action from Brownells is a great way to get set for a build. Barrel already threaded too.

I like mine due to the compactness of it, but it is a little heavy handed for coyotes. I never know if it will stay in or leave a giant exit..

Howa Mini, bobbed mag. and Meopta Artimes 1.5-6x40mm

I had one in 6.5 grendel 20” sporter barrel. It shot ok. Realistically, mine was a 1-1.5 moa gun after 400 rounds, multiple bullets, and several powder types. Kind of gave up on it but just love the little mini action so I had a heavy krieger barrel spun on. Now it shoots 1” groups at 200 yards. It still sits in the factory green stock with plastic bottom. I just bedded it and opened up the barrel channel.

That said if I came across another used one I would probably buy it to try out and if the sporter doesn’t shoot, I will have it cut to 16” to see if it will shoot before rebarreling again.

I started out building a 6.5 grendel on a Savage action and then figured why not get a mini action instead and save the full size action for something bigger.

i found with my Howa mini action factory bbl 107 Sierra wwith AR-comp was sub moa. I started at 26 gr ended at 28 gr CCI or FED small rifle
