$50 Mitutoyo calipers at Wal Mart

Good calipers will measure really close. In my experience, most people don't know how to use them correctly.
That and there is a world of different between a machine shop setting and a reloader just measuring cases and odd items. The dirt, handling, hours of usage, etc just don’t compare.

I don’t rely on my Mitutoyo calipers to measure to the .0005”, but they usually do.

I put the Starretts on a mitutoyo 1" gauge block. They are 1 thou over. I have a set of swiss etalons that were half a thou over. But the etalon need refurbishment.

When it comes to Dial calipers , I trust three brands . Brown & Sharpe . Starett , and Mitutoyo . I have owned all three , and used them in Aerospace Tool Shops for over thirty-five years .
If anyone is considering buy Mit from anywhere , but a certified Dealer , do it at your own risk . Why spend that kind of money to get fake junk , and "REAL" Mitutoyo aren't cheap , and nobody sells them cheap .
I have a pair of 6 inch Mit , MN 505-637-50 that I purchased in 1973 , and they are still as accurate today as the day they were new . If you want to measure precision , you purchase quality tools .
Those with GORILLA HANDS need not apply ! :D

I just want to know if this is legitimate. Or does mitutoyo make "cheap" calipers they sell at Walmart.

I also want to know if you think these are genuine or fakes. It's sold by home easy via Walmart. Seems too good to be true.

Walmart 6" Mitutoyo calipers
Fake/fraud for sure. Google "fake mitutoyo calipers" and you'll find lots of information online. The best way to identify the real ones is the paperwork that comes with them...........the printing has to be perfect, etc.

Did you try cleaning the face of the jaws by measuring a sheet of paper while pulling the paper out of the jaws to clean up the jaw faces?

I haven't tried that, I wiped them with a clean cloth. I'll try it and see if it helps. The Starretts are consistently 1 thou over.

I sent the etalons to get refurbished. I'll do the same with the Starretts once I get the etalons back, unless I can get them to measure close to zero.

Sounds like you are happy with the Starrett caliper. I am happy for you! Just received a 2nd hand IP67 Mititoyo 6" caliper along with a test Indicator today in the mail. very pleased with these as well.
