$50 Mitutoyo calipers at Wal Mart

I just want to know if this is legitimate. Or does mitutoyo make "cheap" calipers they sell at Walmart.

I also want to know if you think these are genuine or fakes. It's sold by home easy via Walmart. Seems too good to be true.

I think the price tells the story, also read some of the reviews. If you’re in the market for a real pair buy from a reputable vendor, like MSC, KBC tool, Travers and the like.

Amazon? Might get the real thing. If you're not a machinist and don't use them every day for work look at iGaging brand for half the price and they work just as well. I own Mits and Starretts and Brown and Sharp brands and I use iGaging because they work and if I drop them, it doesn't hurt nearly as bad.

Hey Fellers, in Arkansas and 110% AGREE!!! Haven't been in a Walmart store in 10yrs... things there went to hell when Sam died. Just read an article this morning about a judge somewhere back east who sentenced a bunch of WM shop lifters to community service washing cars in the WM parking lot and the home office in Springdale Arkansas wouldn't let him do it....as for a good place to get the calipers, I get mine for MSC and don't look back.... If you watch the video in the other thread on this, the first sign there fake is the price. I looked at the wal-mart web site, at 3 different ones, and 2 of the pictures seem to be of the real thing, but one pic is defiantly a fake. I would assume by the price and 1 out of 3 is a fake, there all fake.
the 11.8 inch one for $145 pics has a mitutoyo logo and the pics are of a real one. not saying you would not recieve a fake.

I have two pair of "Anytime" dial calibers I purchased at Amazon. Less than $40 each. I'm no lover of China but these, like a lot of stuff today is made in China.

I've been using them for several years now and they have performed well without issue. I check periodically with length standards, and they are well within the + or - .001" advertised accuracy. They return to zero every time. The key to the latter is keeping the jaws clean of debris.

I guess I'm a simpleton. I think of calipers as a comparator. If I'm really concerned about it, I'll get out a micrometer.

The reason I'm asking is because my calipers crapped out and I need a new pair.

Someone local has a pair of Starretts 120s for sale. Supposedly unused. Maybe someone here can date them. I can't tell they're vintage.

Honestly, I've never owned a pair of micrometer but I can see what you're saying about calipers being more of a comparator. They work well enough for me and my shooting discipline.
