There are other places to get them to. First set of mitutoyo calipers i got were their cheap models and not rated as coolant proof. they worked good for a few years but they started having accuracy problems. I got alot of oil on them so i couldnt really blame the caliper. Thats why i bought the coolant proof. They have served me well. like in many things they were worth the cost. i still use the cheap ones for the bump gage.

MSC, I believe is where I purchased mine. Large tool vendors send out monthly sales catalogs with tool and cutter sales to large machine shops and manufacturers...so I ordered through the company I worked for and they deducted it from my paycheck. Must have had 10 calibers over my career, down to 3 that work. Mitutyo coolent proof is my favorite, even over the Starrett. It's the one I use and prefer over all the rest. But get to the micrometers my preference easily goes to Starrett. Except the 50 millionth micrometer then back to Mitutyo. Get Mitutyo made in Japan...not the cheap Mitutyo made in Mexico, big difference.

Back in the day, when I made my living with precision tools, my first choice was Starrett. Purchased locally. Bought my only digital caliper in the mid 90's and still have it and use it. A Mitutoyo. Outside of yearly battery swaps it has served me well. Purchased it from Enco, but believe they no longer exist. Even at my advanced age, I attempt to buy the best quality I can afford. Have not darkened the door of a Habor Freight more than once. A dealer/vendor with a good reputation has value. Aren't we cautioned about scammers every day?
We are cautioned, and who are better at scamming, stealing designs, making fake tools, optics, you name it, than the chicomms. So, go ahead and support them if you wish but don't blame anyone but yourself when you get scammed.

Usually the price will sort out the real Mitutoyo from the fakes but not always. Buy from a reputable supplier and if they say Mitutoyo then you should get Mitutoyo.

buy from a reputable dealer, Penn tool co usually has a mitutoyo sale every fall and spring, KBC, Shars, Mcmaster, Zoro, all legit. A lot of those places also sell on amazon.

I have a Mitutoyo I will never get rid of. But, a while back a bought one from Igaging. I took a small round of metal rod and measured it with both the Mitutoyo and the Igaging calipers. Both calipers read exactly the same. Go figure.

I was worried about the same thing when I got mine. This is where I got mine (and mine are legit, just have to be careful exactly what Amazon actually sends you):

That's the exact one I just purchased. From everything I inspected, it checks out.

That what i was looking at. The description says comes with the lr44 batteries which is not the correct batteries says all the real vrs knockoffs. That's what has me worried.

MSC coolent proof seems to catch my eye ....
The one I just got from Amazon in the link above, came with a SR44SW battery

No but I purchased a pair of Anytime calipers about a year ago or more on Amazon. I'm very pleased with them. They hold zero and have retained their accuracy. Of course, they are made in China but so far, they have proven to be of adequate quality. The best part is that they were not expensive. So, the downside risk is low.

I liked them so much I bought a second pair.
ditto, they measure the same as my mitutoyo ( within .0005) every time.
for the price I can have one at every bench.
My mitutoyos always measure .001-.002 less than my mechanical starret mic's it seems?

Doing get me wrong. I've used the cheap ones now 3 yrs no problem until now.

I've been chasing my tail on seating & touching lands since i got two new barrels.
It finally clicked that my calipers were on the way out ....

For instance i use wheeler method to find touch then measure. Load up and do break in. A Couple of matches later I decided to recheck touch and #,s are way off. Scratching my head wondering how i made such a mistake..

Now 400 rounds down range both barrels (800) $$$.
I'm realizing my freaking tools have gone crazy. And my scores have embarrassed me.
