.300 WSM WOW!

Evidently Bryan's creation is made out of WSM rather than SAUM brass. Exectly how much difference there is between his creation and the one that Alex and Tom started, I do not know.. I can bet that the performance between the two will be within a hair's breadth..
300 saum brass not WSM from my understanding

what two cartridges are we looking at here?
I believe (not positive) a .300SAUM Improved and a "Shortened" .300WSM Improved. Do not worry about making an "Improved / Proprietary" cartridge for F-Open. The .300WSM is accurate enough to win at L/R Benchrest matches. F-Open needs extreme accuracy, BUT does it need to get down to the "inth" degree to set national records? In my opinion, if you like to "create" something new that may out-perform an already awesome cartridge, go for it. I love tinkering>>>BUT I have done quite enough of that, at least for the foreseeable future. Nothing wrong with doing that, I rather like that myself>>>>but for F-Open, the WSM is all you could hope for with no "fiddlin'" around..

We know you are dreaming of that new wildcat at bedtime Ben! :-)

We know you are dreaming of that new wildcat at bedtime Ben! :)
Since I have become a devotee of "BIG", I really do not have an idea worth the time, effort and $$$s that would or could make a big enough difference against the .300WSM to justify the expense.. Quite frankly, I am so satisfied with the WSM, that my thoughts are failing for contrivance! LOL!!!

The reason I starting thinking about Improving the 300 RSAUM with 40 degree shoulders and less body taper was several years ago when I could not find Norma 300 WSM brass anywhere and if you could find someone selling it was going for $2.00 a piece! 300 RSAUM was available at about $1.14-$1.25. Even now WSM brass is about $0.50 a piece more than RSAUM. I guess it is the old supply and demand thing. I had that idea in the back of my head for years and finially started the project in about 2015-16. If you are not a gunsmith it takes quite a while to get everything together, then made. This project took close to 2 years, everytime I turned around there was a part or something delayed. I am glad I did it, it is a beautiful case and more effiecient that the WSM. To me the WSM looks like a 30 cal Dasher and the 300 RSAUM AI looks like a 6BRAI (6BRA)! Samuel Hall

Yes, wsm and saum ackley. I ordered the reamer half because its based on the same principal as the BRA. Efficiency is linked to accuracy. And half because ADG makes 7saum brass. Its the only brass I compare to Lapua. Thats what really got me excited, I wouldnt have done it without that brass.

I'm anxious to see if it's the cat's meow .
Especially with the talk of higher velocities, over the 300 wsm.

I doubt that the SAUM Imp. Velocities will exceed the regular 300 WSM.
The benefits that I can see possible with the SAUM version are, an opportunity to use ADG brass which should possibly allow for greater case life, excellent uniformity in case volume and a well balance case capacity to bore ratio. - IMO, the standard 300 WSM is going to be pretty hard to beat, and it’s only a matter of time until one of the high quality brass manufacturers bring brass in this caliber to market.

Stan to me it sounds like we are going back to the 70's when I first started, where everyone was on the speed kick. The way I see it, Get the damn bullet stabilized! If you push them to fast your not going to like what you get.

Joe Salt
Well, Joe what intrigues me they say there running 2950 Plus with 200 grain class bullets, if the accuracy node was there, after 10 rounds down range in about 50 seconds my bolt will be hard to open up.

I do find the WSM will run nice at 3025fps with a 208/210. Yes we all know they will shoot lights out in the 2800's but it gets touch and go til over 3000fps. The only issue I have found with running them that fast is it's much harder on brass and the recoil gets a little punchy.
