.300 WSM WOW!

Thanks! From the pic, it looks like it has a relatively short bearing surface, much in the same vein as the 200-20X Hybrids. I like short(er) bearing surfaces as they tend to reduce torque, thus aiding in accuracy, especially accuracy under the stress of competitive fire! Do you happen to have some preliminary data on where it's b.c. might fall?

No, buts its very similar to a 200 20x in dimensions. I wouldnt worry about bc too much. We get way too concerned about that number. At least in my personal experience it does not always work out on target like the chart would say. When its finalized Im sure the guys will test it and figure a bc.

It appears to have a very small meplat. If the shape is very similar and the meplat small, it stands to reason that the bc will be similar too.

Great post on the new bullets!
But... how will this change the reamer specs for the guys that are shooting other bullets?
Will you guys let us know what reamer specs to use?
Thanks

Ben,

Yes the bearing is almost identical to the 20x. My upper accuracy node in my 300 SAUM IMP (AKA WSM KILLER) LOL is at 3025, so you can move them. We will be testing in this case (3.2 h20) smaller than your wsm, and also 308 win. The b.c. is pretty fair going by my come ups, but I haven't been thorough enough yet to give a guess. I had to come down a couple minutes from my 215 hybrid load, but this bullet was 3025 compared to my 2925 hybrid load. I wouldn't hold off any 2020 plans, as this is most likely going to be hashed out during the 2020 season. It won't be for sale until it can't be perfected any longer, as determined by 1k PAPER. ;)

I appreciate the info and your effort in this endeavor. I just (as in this past week) started with RL-16 in my 200-20X WSM. I am getting right at 2994-3002 and the thing just hammers down! So, at least for the foreseeable future, I will stay with the 200-20Xs. But I am sure interested in the new creation! Please keep me posted, I will certainly appreciate it!

Lol. My friend laughed when I showed up shooting 105gr Berger BoatTail target instead of the Hybrids until he saw my 600yd target.

I'm just about to start load development with 200.20x - what was your charge weight of rl16 to achieve that velocity? Did you try h4350 with the 20x?

My "original" load WAS with H4350. It was 61.3grs. The velocity WAS 2930. That was Spring, Summer and early Fall. However, a couple of weeks ago I shot the Arizona State Mid-Range Championship. I loaded up 200 rounds for the 2 day event. The previous Monday, I took the rifle out to "foul-out" the barrel and make sure it was sighted-in. To my chagrin I was shocked to see that the velocity fell to 2890! That is a 40f.p.s. drop! Since it was the same lot of powder, I can ONLY assume that the "cooler", NOT COLD, temps caused the drop. To me, that is not "temperature stability". I know from LOTS of experience that the NEW RL-Powders, RL-16 and RL-23 can go from winter thru summer to winter again with no appreciable loss / gain in velocity. So I took it out and now I wish I would have started with it. My charge weight is 62.7grs. The accuracy is either the equal or the better of H4350, certainly the accuracy node is higher!

With the RL-16, my cases eject out like butter. Not even a hint of excessive pressure.. Try it with the 200-20Xs!
I don't have a magnum bolt face anymore so if I play with a 30 it will have to be a standard bolt face and they ain't no way can I could achieve those velocities probably play with a 30 ought 6 improved.

I had a 30-06A.I. You do not want one. LOADS of recoil, not much more velocity gain over the .308 using Palma brass. BUT the worst thing I experienced was NON-STOP doughnuts at the neck / shoulder junction. I would have to cut them out and either the next firing or the firing after that, I would have to cut them out again. The doughnuts were so bad that if you ran a mandrel thru the case, it would collapse the shoulder on several cases! Horrible! T-Rust me on this one!

Well crap so much for that ,guess I will have to stick with my BB guns 6mm,an 6.5 caliber.
Thanks Shootdots.

Stan if it has to be 308 bolt face how about a 30-284 Shehane to keep 308 bolt face
