45 caliber smokeless muzzleloader

Love to have a . 40 caliber custom muzzleloader. I think I'd hunt with it during the firearm deer season and leave my centerfire rifles at home. They are cool weapons.
I shoot a 40 caliber Barnes with sabot in my 45. A little easier on the shoulder.

I cannot wait for mine! I have a 45 cal smokeless that should be done in roughly a weeks time and is been such an agonizing wait and this thread isn’t making it easier

Here’s my latest SML build that I use for SML benchrest matches (Kentucky Challenge)…..and then I also throw it in another stock and hunt (destroy things) with it in the fall/winter.

So as to NOT derail the thread you guys might wanna check out this thread I started over on LRH. It’s ALL about SML’s and there’s some pretty impressive builds posted there.

Remington 700 S/A single shot
Jewell trigger set at 6 oz
26” Brux .45 cal 1-18 twist fluted barrel
H.I.S ignition
McMillan Kestros stock
Nightforce Competition 15-55

The “hunting” stock is a Stocky’s Euro Match

Took my second iteration, a .45 Brux shooting 200 gr Hornadys and smooth blue harvesters, to RSA back in 2013. Killed a black wildebeest, two blesbok, two springbok and an oryx with it. The oryx was at 295 yds and the bullet stopped just below the hide on the opposite side. Hit with the first shot, it did walk about 25 yds. before dropping dead. Flat land, horsemen drive them while the hunter and PH sit in a hole or depression in the ground.

You guys ought to be on a bench at the firing line with a bunch of these…..the concussion wave from one (or more) of these will dang near blow your hat off……IF you’re wearing one. Heckuva thing…

Not derailing it at all. Cool to see so much intrest in them. Id like to see more groups and game. Loads too.
Do you know of any companies that offer a .45 cal VLD style bullet? The Pitman's are better then most ML bullets but a true VLD would really show what these things could do.

I dont. To make a bullet long enough to get the bc, it would be pretty heavy. Maybe that why they dont do it?

So the “modules” are short primed cases and a chamber is cut for it in the rear of the barrel? So any normal bolt action can be used?

Yes. Here’s a test I cut on bar stock to proof out the first one I did before I committed to a barrel. You can buy standard or magnum rim profiles to fit whichever bolt face you have. In addition to these modules Hankins also sells his DI modules which are a slightly different animal.

Been there done that for two days. I ran a 1000 yard match a couple years ago for some friends that shoot these, had a good crowd. I was glad when we were done after two days calling the line!!
