10mm Auto and Blue Dot ?

My G21 ith 10mm barrel and 24# spring does 1216 with 180 gold dot and 10.5 gr Accurate #7 and great accuracy. Never tried the 220 gr. Might be fun
i can do 1100 with a 230 gd in my g21 45 super with 8 gr true blue. Accuracy is good. Havent pushed it past that
The 220gr Coated Hardcast are not really 220gr by weight mine from Underwood and Straightshooter are coming in at 214gr. I guess before coating with a Gas Check it was 220gr.

I found several loads rated @ around or slightly over 1200 fps without even trying, now granted they weren't with a 200 grain XTP or Bluedot.
Yes, if you want 10mm ballistics you need to buy premium ammo.
I chronographed some Winchester Silvertip 10mm some years back and it actually recorded what it was advertised at.
Man , I just picked up a g20 and the advertising velocity and real world is very very hard to reach.... Even like almost every reloading manual the velocity listed is way off... I am in the middle of testing right now.....

To get real 10mm vel the only ones that come close to advertised vel is Underwood and I beleve their data is from a 5”. So a G20 with the 4.75” is going to have alittle less.
All manuals since early 1970’s have been watered down.
In my G20
10.0 of Blue Dot (with a max of 10.6) the best accuracy came in at 10.0 to 10.2.
200 XTP
CCI 300
Starline brass

I have other loads if needed . Been shooting the 10mm since late 80’s.

Can you send me a few using blue dot and a 180gr jacketed..???

Hornady data is real close to full performance 10mm loads. I just recently worked up a 200gr coated load with Blue Dot. Out of a 5.2inch barrel, I am at 1230 average fps.

I have a load but I don’t use 180’s XTP.
11.0 of BD
CCI 300
Starline brass
Books are not even close to max !
I live in Alaska and use my G20 as a trail gun.
I have 200 XTP loaded for home defense with 10gr of BD and that’s all I use them for.
For the trail I use 9.5 of BD and this 220gr Hardcast . I suspect with 5.2” your not using a G20.

Thanks this is exactly what I am finding..... So far I am loving the 10mm , I think somewhere around 1150 will do me fine.....once again thanks sir... Probably just like you I spend a lot of time pulling triggers but for a pistol that holds 15 rounds this is fun and has peaked my interest again..... We get old but still have fun...lol

Same here I backed off of MAX just a tad. Still more than most factory loaded ammo. Yes 15 rounds is comfortable on the trail compared to 6 rounds. The G20 is very popular here in Alaska.
9.5 of BD with 220g (214gr) Hard Cast is what I use.

I have a Glock 20 with KKM barrel standard length and 22 pound spring

My Components ;

Blue Dot powder
CCI 300 Large Pistol Primers
Starline Brass
200 Gr XTP Hornady
Lee Factory Crimp Die

I would like to get to the Norma original load of 1200 FPS with Blue Dot any suggestions?
i think you have a basic error, original 10mm was not a 200
other than that blue dot is just a pain to weigh/load

The 10mm Auto from Orginal loadings were 170gr and 200gr
Yes BD big flakes like 800x can be a pain but I use a RCBS 1500 Chargemaster he doesn’t mind !

I have heard disappointing reports on many S&W pistols.
I had the first 10mm SW a 1006 that was my first.
Every since Glock introduced the in 10mm I have had a Glock 20 and one Kimber Eclipse 2 …..now only Glock !
The G20 of course you have to modified them for heavy loads for longevity. But very happy with G20 in the Alaskan Frontier.

Blue dot isn’t as good as Longshot. Longshot and 800-x are the hot 10mm powders to use. AA#9 is also decent. But definitely Longshot and 800-x can get you to full NOrma spec— and beyond.
I have heard good things of Longshot and BE-86 in the 10mm with heavy bullets as well as Major pistol.
I have a very small amount of 800x left which was my first powder I used in the 10mm with 200 XTP 30 years ago when the g20 was introduced. I am stuck on BD for now. I am happy anywhere between 1100 and 1200 fps with 220gr Hardcast in my G20.

Just ordered KKM barrel for my G29. Lots of great info here. For now I shoot A#9 but then again Bears here in Florida are not quite the "eat you" size so I am playing around the 165jhp area. I need a good Cronograph.

I would not go lighter than 180gr for trail use.
11.0 of BD excellent in 10 mm with 180 XTP
Excellent choice in barrel
Suggest NDZ recoi spring and rod at 22 pounds for heavy loads
The 180gr Hornady XTP should serve you well at home and trail in FL against bear and boar and good for deer.

At what weight bullet do you feel the need to replace the recoil spring?

It’s not the weight of the bullet it’s the vel you run the bullet. Most factory loads are merely for 10mm are upper 40 cal levels it called the FBI load.
Underwood Ammo for factory loads are realistic 10mm Auto loads. So if you plan to use real 10 mm loads I suggest a 22 pound spring to save wear and tear on your lower frame. NDZ is what I use with their stainless rod and spring come pre assembled just change out the spring. A great combo with that KKM barrel. If you have a Gen 4 just make sure you order the correct model from their NDZ website for the Gen 4 Glock. Cheap way to protect your gun !
