Lol! You must not have been to a Sr match in a while. It's a great time and not much grouchiness to be found.Forgive the interruption but while y’all SR guys are arguing about your tuners some of us LR guys will be tuning brass and getting ready to do some fire forming in 2 ft of snow and sub zero temps…. And the young people y’all want to get involved in a factory class are over at the PRS event doing calculations their laptops, and shooting Steele at 1400 yards with the 6.5 MB so how do ya plan on getting a new crowd interested in a sport full of grouchy Gray tops ?
Hey SPJ, you better catch up. I have brass turned , loaded, and have been fire forming it all summer as foulers for two new barrels. When your fire forming this winter we will be having winter matches. I have left these matches when it's below zero but it's ok, us old Gray tops have no fear, just experiemce. Try or keep up young fellow, lol.Forgive the interruption but while y’all SR guys are arguing about your tuners some of us LR guys will be tuning brass and getting ready to do some fire forming in 2 ft of snow and sub zero temps…. I know I’m behind the curve. I’ll double my efforts…Hey SPJ, you better catch up. I have brass turned , loaded, and have been fire forming it all summer as foulers for two new barrels. JIM,I know I’m behind the curve. I’ll double my efforts…Hold on a minute.. what’s with leaving a match when its below zero ?
Simply put, I don't care for prs style matches..They're not for everybody, young or old. I understand it's allure to some people. I'm just not one of them. I've done that type of shooting and I'm not knocking anybody that wants to do it. It's just a different game. Another thing...they like to shoot factory ammo and such..Kinda the opposite of what this thread is about. Kinda like circle track or drag racing. Both involve cars but similarities stop shortly after that.Clay
I don’t try and change anyones ways, in my near 70 years I’ve found that fruitless and non productive, but we have all adjusted our outlook at one time of another. ( a 308 vs 6 br for example)
The question remains- how to get young people involved in BR when the PRS offers national events with 250 shooters, huge prize tables, timed shooting challenges through obstacles and all the participants speak the same ballistic program.
Jim
Well ok, are you eliminating a customer base in the prs crowd ?Simply put, I don't care for prs style matches..They're not for everybody, young or old. I understand it's allure to some people. It's over. Now an hour and a half or two hours home depending on the roads. And watch it , only 75.I know I’m behind the curve. I’ll double my efforts…Hold on a minute.. what’s with leaving a match when its below zero ?
Too funny.. I was just about to add a WinkyIt's over. Now an hour and a half or two hours home depending on the roads. And watch it , only 75.
Of course not. I'm not sure what I said that you'd get that from. It's just another game. I personally prefer short range BR for score. I hope that's not a statement that makes anyone mad. Lol! Tuners are great for that game too. So are wind flags where you can use them. Don't laugh too soon. Everybody laughed at flags for long range before Bart set a record or so and kicked everybody's arse with flags..and tuners. I understand flags aren't always going to be practical at a prs match but the more info a shooter has regarding the wind, the better. The sooner they come to that conclusion, the better, too. Several are already using tuners.Well ok, are you eliminating a customer base in the prs crowd ?
No matter, let’s circle back to short range and tell me what advice would you give to a shooter that wants to beat a guy like Jeff that’s 200 years old and all that wisdom ?
Get off the computer and go shoot.Well I must have misinterpreted , the first three sentences of your previous post kinda lead me there. My apologies .
I’m not a prs shooters either but from the reports the numbers for attendance are very impressive and I’m pretty sure most venders have taken notice as well.
Back to SR and my friend @JEFFPPC who for example is using the same tuner and same flags equipment etc. as I do, what can I do this winter to beat him next spring ?
Good stuff Bart! Thanks. Not sure I would've found it with a good spankin, but a few years ago, I had a front screw barely bottom out on a glued and screwed rifle. In fact, I shot it like that at your place with the concrete monkey. You weren't around. Drove me crazy shooting in the 3's. I was a little embarrassedI helped derail this thing so to get back on track.
One thing that (I believe) holds shooters back is not knowing when their rifle stops shooting and I’m talking mechanical issues. Shooters are often too quick to blame themselves for poor performance and not their equipment. This usually results in a lot of frustration and a slump.
So if your shooting has dropped off try something different. Try a different rifle or Shoot a buddy’s rifle. Have a buddy that’s shooting well, shoot yours. This way you can start to figure out where the problem is.
CRAZY TIP (DON’T Laugh) - SPANK IT! Yep Spank your rifle. Hold your rifle vertically (unloaded of course) by the barrel in front of you and smack the buttstock. Listen for any unusual rattling noises. Do this with the bolt in and out of the rifle.
It sounds stupid, but it’s the first thing I do when I check a rifle that’s not shooting. At the Tack Driver a friend’s Rifle was acting up throwing shots. I gave the rifle a quick spank and detected a strange rattle. Long story short the screws to tighten the Picatinny rail were bottomed out (blind drilled holes) and not holding the rail in place. The list is long of problems I’ve found this way.
Bart
I've seen your targets Jackie, with no sighters. Pretty amazing to me how anyone can shoot that well trusting their flag/wind call from 30 minutes prior without firing at least one sighter. That's just unreal or maybe even impossible around here, but either way..congrats and kudos on some awe inspiring shooting that I've seen from your targets. Just crazy good!I shoot both Short Range Group and Score. Been doing it to close to 30 years. I am fairly good at both, but as of late, I am shooting more Score. It tends to suite my shooting style a little more than Group, as I am not much of a runner.
I would really like to add something to the thread content, but after reading it’s entirety, I don’t think I have anything much to offer…………..except.
I spend a lot, and I practice a lot.
