600 yd ibs, what do I need to know.

one thing ive realized in the ibs long range is most people are more than willing to help you. Just go check out a match one day, or load up some ammo and go shoot. im sure the veteran shooters at the range will make sure you get it figured out. A few key things i have learned are, 1- be sure to take you own stool because not all ranges provide seating at the bench. 2- Be friendly, and ask questions, everyone started somewhere. 3- Use your sighters to your advantage, you have plenty of time to get dialed in, but those last few seconds are most important. take your last sighter shot around when they call 15 seconds left and you will have a decent understanding of conditions. 4- pay attention to the equipment and practices of the guys winning. most everything they do serves some kind of purpose. If they do something you dont understand, do some research and find out why. Im no pro at this, im just throwing out a few ideas of what i learned over my first year of IBS 600/1000 last year. Most importantly, go shoot and have fun!

I've already learned a lot shooting Ubr short range br but my gun will probably do better in the longer ranges is what I'm thinking anyway. An 8 twist 6br doesn't compete as well as a ppc at 100

Anymore advice or pointers for swapping to long range game would be appreciated. Do you uniform metplats? What about wind flags? How many how often?

I dont know the answer to either of these questions really lol. For the wind flags, down at Piedmont some people set them out and some dont. i have never had any but i feel like they're probably an advantage if you know how to use them. A lot of guys point and trim their bullets, especially at 1000. I dont have the equipment so i have never tried any. Is it a benefit, probably but you can get by without doing it.

Is it mostly custom actions or are people shooting factory actions?

Make yourself a pre-match checklist and use it so you don't forget anything when you go to the match.

Go shoot a match. Get there early, have a note book, watch, listen, ask questions, shoot and most importantly, have fun. You will learn much at your first match and come away with even more questions.

Lots of very helpfull folks at every match I've attended.

Good Shooting

Yeah I have found the art of benchrest to be a rabbit hole. I can't get enough and it always goes deeper, always someone that can teach you something and I want to learn all I can.

Lol as I was scrolling and saw your name i knew it was coming. Maybe one day saving up for a new action now. No telling what I will do with it.

No need for a new action. Just have a barrel spun up for your current action.
7.5 or 8 twist, 26 to 28 inches, heavy varmint to 1.250 straight, Brux, Bartlein, etc.
Then your are good to go even at 1,000
Dasher, but a BRX will work also.
How far are you from the DOME? I assume you are near Gallatin, Murfreesboro area.

I have though about it but I got a pretty good barrel I will have to shoot out first. I will also have to do some learning when it comes to the brass part.

Just run a Dasher reamer in that BR barrel and you are good to go.
Don't even need a new barrel.
The brass part----just fire your current BR load in the Dasher barrel and wa-la you have Dasher brass.
Just seat the bullet long for a jam fit to headspace on and they will form perfectly.

That sounds easy enough I thought you had to make a false shoulder on the neck or something like that
