travelling to a competition (NOT RE: airline rules for rifles/ammo)

For those of you traveling to matches, such as the recent matches at Raton, how are you dealing with equipment that is NOT your rifle or ammo. For example, your range cart (if you have one)? Your cleaning supplies and tools? Scope stand (although that usually breaks down).

Around here in the PNW, I generally drive to matches, so it's not an issue. But driving from WA to Raton, or Lodi, or any other the other places where big matches usually take place is a tough prospect, considering the extra amount of time off for travel. I'd prefer to fly, but it seems fairly daunting getting all that equipment moved.

Ship stuff. I also live in the Pacific NW and everything is far away for me. I always have to fly and my rifle goes with me on the plane.

The above is what I shipped to Raton and includes several cases for the Team.

Awesome, that's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure. Do you just have it shipped to your hotel or to the range, or what? Or do you just have them hold it at the transfer center and you go pick it up?

I've shipped ammo, gear & rifles before with few issues. Ammo's more a problem now than back then.

Asking for "hold for pick-up" from a shipper can present problems unless you leave ample time to arrive during business hours for pick-up.

Were I to undertake such an endeavor now I'd prefer to ship to a "local participant" who's willing & able to receive all but the rifle then transport to the venue.

I'm still trying to get a grip on shipping ammunition; some say it's OK, others say no unless you're qualified to ship HAZMAT. Rules changed not long ago too - what used to be OK as ORM-D may not be now.

SP Clark is all over it, if you ever want to fly to Phoenix for a match email me at highpower@asrpa.com and I will provide you with a receiving address.

If you can crate things in a Plywood box/crate there is a company called Forward Air that usually has great rates on shipping. You will have to take to and pick up from one of their depots! Usually, very cheap in the past for my motorcycle related shipping needs.
