300 SAUM Imp

I think 30 cals in HG are where we are headed. They do indeed seem to run with the 6mms, and they don't go as nuts in poor conditions. I am not sure the 30s will run with the 6mms in light gun. A 17 lb 30 seems to move 3-4 times as much as a 17 lb 6mm and is thus too slow to shoot. However, a 30 lb braked 30 cal seems to move about like a 17 lb 6mm and seems to keep up just fine.

My 300 WSM with 215 Berger's and IMR 4451 is showing a lot of promise. I was just behind Tom on Sat of the last match, my agg was .115 larger than his--he was #4 and I was #5. On Sunday, I started very strong, but because I didn't clean after Saturday, my second Sunday group opened up. I now know this barrel will go 70 rounds and shoot well, but not much over that. A couple guys gently chewed my @ss over testing that at a match........ ;)

We will see at this upcoming match if this was just luck or if I am on to something. Regardless, the next barrel I chamber this winter will be a 300 SAUM IMP. I will probably cut off the shank and rechamber my current barrel as well. It's a long story as to why.........

Depends on bullet choice, lots of weight range. Glenn's trying 185s Tom's die should make a 225 and the 230 berger is very good. 10 twist would be the best all around choice.

This one is around 1.590 out of my die Roy made up for me to fondle. I'm going to play with them in my 9" twist hopefully before winter. I think "Mean Grandpa" might be a good name for it!

Tom and Glenn, what do you think your neck tension is?
I know you both are working with different bushings.
Does one seem to standing out more than another?
(light or heavier)

We have both tried several neck tensions and they can perform at a variety of tensions. I have went as light as 1 thou and as heavy as 6 thou and ended up right in the middle.
