New dies ruining brass???

Back on topic. Does this die actually say 9mm on it? I bought a set of Lee 7x57 dies many years back. The label and seating die were correct, however there was a 220 Swift sizing die mistakenly packed. That would have really raised hell with a 7x57 case!

threw at my sister,,missed,,you know what a burp gun is ?
No, but several of the neighbors made Polish cannons. Back when pop and beer cans had a pressed on bottom. They would cut out both ends of several cans, then duct tape them into a tube. Bottom can retained its bottom. Little hole in the side to squirt in lighter fluid and a match. They would shoot tennis balls in the air.

Yes, but I found the problem. The dies are not polished... WTF??? I got the new ones, was all excited, put them in, and same thing.

Just so happens, today a friend brought over a truck bed full ( I am not even joking, my garage looks like I am stockpiling ammunition for the appocalypse) of reloading equipment! maybe 50k primers, 100 lbs of lead, 1000`s of empty cases of 40, 44 Magnum, 45, 9mm so much crap I dont know what to do... AND PRESSES with DIES!

So upon failure of the second set, I dug through the stuff he brought me, found a set of Lee 380 Dies, what luck! Set up his single stage press, and ran a case through the 380. Guess what? Sized JUST FINE! What? Yeah, so I set up the 9mm on it, thinking, ok maybe the guy in an earlier post was right about my press being jacked up. NOPE! still ruined the case.

Inspected the inside of the 380, and the inside of the 9mm, and wow what a difference. the 380 is mirror finish, mine is "mat" finish. They did not polish the 9mm carbide, ON BOTH!

Time to contact Lee. And unfortunatly, he did not have a 9mm die set.

You all may be interested in the presses he got. He claims they are ancient old, and worth thousands. No idea, but one has like 5 or 6 stations. I will post pictures of the presses in the morrow.

Good work and resolution to the problem. There are true experts here. World class shooters and true champions. And most of us respect each other and maintain. And look at all the "wisdom" you received !! And in the end you solved yourself. You are on the road to enlightenment grasshopper. Going to pull my new unused 9mm Luger set to look for polishing or rough . . . . . See you at the 1,000 yard targets with 9mm holes o_O

Yeah 380 dies wont work for 9mm. I know 380 is often called a 9mm short but the case is differnt besides just shorter. I would agree your problem is with the die, and as long as you deal with that amazon dealer you will never get a decent set. I use lee carbide 9mm and have never had a problem, use the lee return form and you will be happy with the results.

I'd either get it back to Lee and let them resolve it or buy a different brand. Not a Lee basher here. I think their collet die is a winner, but only after I polish it all up myself because it's crude out of the box.

In general though, I believe there are better choices to be made when buying reloading dies. Like most other things, you get what you pay for. YMMV

Lee dies of today are not the same as years ago. I use all their pistol carbide dies with no issues. This is a good recommendation.

Sent in the support request last night, with pictures, and they already sent out the die as of 10am, no return required!

Even if I got a bum die off the line, their customer service is on point, and to me thats better than a great product with poor customer service.

The thing with lee is they send out anything and let the customer do the qc. Works most of the time for most people then when a problem arises they actually fix it the best they can. Lee is a great company thats got a lot of people into reloading they just dont make anything suitable for anything i do.

Looks like its got a sharp entry edge. If it was me id put the lees in a junk drawer as a lesson learned and pick any other brand made but im sure lee will send you some better ones once they have a qc item detected. Those dies are junk ive never seen one shave a case like that. Hopefully you wont have any issues with the new set they are usually good at customer servc.

Not much to contribute here, except welcome to the wonderful world of lee...
