2016 MidSouth Marksmen MR/LR Matches (AEDC - Tullahoma, TN)

I see Soko likes this but it makes me kind of sad. I liked the target carriers and wish they would have spent the time and effort building an impact berm and re-routing/eliminating the road at the 600 yard line so we didn't need road guards. Then we could run 3 relays and save $100 a day. BUT, they didn't ask for my input so carry on...

Wonder what the new target frames will be like.

EDIT. I was thinking this over last night and wondered how Dean Herron might have felt about this? I didn't know Dean as well as Clyde, Rusty, Alvin, TN or a bunch of the others who brought me up through the years but I think he would have been thrilled to see the improvements. Improvements that more than likely will keep AEDC relevant and operational for years. Thinking of it like this makes it a lot more palatable to think of them tearing apart a working range....
Chris, Dean and I had the opportunity to review the planning several years ago when the project was first developed. It was nothing official but more of a courtesy to Dean for his efforts to rebuild the pits and add the 600 and 1000 yard lines in the 1960s. Dean had a couple of constructive comments and I do not remember adding anything of significance. I will venture that Dean would be very supportive today and consider the change favorable. Clyde

It is with a heavy heart, that I'm needing to inform you that once again we will not be having a combined MidRange State Championship.
I'm going to get the facts out so everyone can understand the reasons for not having a State Championship.
As everyone knows by now, the AEDC KD range has been shut down for 2 months, so the TN national guard can make major improvements/upgrades to the facilities.
Last week I was informed that the range is scheduled to be finished and open pending setbacks on 1 September.
Now the bad news, the range will once again be closed for upgrades to the landing strip on the main installation starting some time after the first week of October and anticipated to be closed for the rest of the calendar year.
As we had already posted our match schedule thru September this left us with few options to execute a Championship match worthy of the great shooters in Tennessee.
We (John Venters /Tim Kreier) were contacted by Mr Kunz(Highland Rim national guard liaison) Mark Long (State HighPower Director) and offered the October 8/9 weekend to have the state championship. Within a few minutes of being offered these dates, I realized, they conflicted with some other prone matches being held in the area. Oak ridge is hosting a 3x1000 both days and RiverBend will be having the confederate midrange which is 3x600 both days. So I contacted the individual that actually runs the XTC matches to see if there would be a conflict with him. He stated to me on the phone it wasn't a conflict.
So we made the decision, to not step on the other rifle club matches and figured another option. Which was to request the 24 September date which was allotted to Highland Rim for an across the course (XTC) match.
We proposed to Mr Kunz that we would like the 24 september date, and in return he could have the 8/9 october dates for the conduct of a XTC match.
No way shape or form will I attempt to run a one day championship, that would allow no alternate courses of action
should the guard cancel it or we have inclimate weather. IE planning one o one. This would also allow mr Kunz an alternate day for the XTC matches, giving him 2 not one additional date.
I have attached the email reply John received from Mr Kunz, I will let you be the judge from there.
So, as of now he is unwilling to assist in getting us the date we need to make this happen. So I am including both Mr Long and Mr Kunz's email and phone numbers so you can contact them and voice your opinions on this action.
Mark Long 615-681-1710 marklong@tds.net Clyde Kunz 615-893-7292 chkunz@bellsouth.net
Now, to Mr Long and Mr Kunz. Not sure if you have a personal vendetta against me or what? It is time to start directing and promoting all High Power rifle matches in Tennessee. I will make this statement for all to see. If you facilitate the changing of dates I will not attend or shoot this match if that is what it takes, But instead insure that it is well run and advertised. Now the ball is in your court. Yep, it seems like there will not be a combined MidRange State Championship.

But they are having the Long Range State Championship Labor Day weekend.

As stated above the TN LR F-Class state Championship is still a go as of today. Please look at our website for
the latest and most recent up to date information. Stay tuned as we are currently working on a solution to
the MR State Championship.( With no help, from the above two mentioned individuals ) If Things work out
we will be Hosting the MR Championship at an alternate location.
We will also be having the Dean Herron Memorial Match (3x600) on the 25 of September. Bring out those
service rifles and have some fun. MSG(R) Tim Kreier MidSouth Marksmen

Just confirmed with Tim that this weekend is a no-go. Master schedule still says TBD but they are still working on the range.

So, looking forward to Labor day weekend. I am curious to see how the carriers work and to start chalking odd and/or nasty messages to JSoko about Tim on the pit walls... these guys have a strange sense of humor to be sure.

We are three days out from the F-Class State Championship. Targets are built, awards have been purchased and the weather forecast looks good so far. Hope everyone has got this on their calendars. I am thinking we may also have a bunch of prone shooters trying for that eagle trophy. Should be a great weekend of shooting, so if you can manage it. Please come join us this weekend.
Also the final coordination's have been made and I'm pleased to also announce the combined Prone/F-Class MR (5x600) Tennessee State championships. This match will be 22/23 Oct at Oak Ridge TN (ORSA) and run by MidSouth Marksmen. After the loss of the range dates at AEDC our good friends at Oak Ridge offered the use of their fine facilities. A special thanks goes out to Mr Larry Sparks for making this happen. Attached is the match program for the MR Championship.
