Wondering if this would be legal in F/TR?

image.jpg image.jpeg Uimage.jpg I trued up a 24"x12"X1/2" plate of steel and Oxyied a hole to grab onto. The plate is only 2" wider than the Duplin bipod at its widest point. According to the rules you can use a "plate". This is a steel plate. Just making sure I guess.

  1. (2) The use of “tables” i.e. a single flat solid surface extending under both front rest and rear bag is prohibited. Carpet or similarly flexible matting may be placed under the front rest and rear bag. Separate flat boards and or plates not exceeding the dimensions of the individual rests by two inches on a given side may also be placed under the front rest and rear bag. In the case of a bipod, the board or plate may be as wide as necessary to accommodate the bipod at its widest point, but not be more than 12” front to rear. It is not permitted to provide tracks for the guidance of bipod feet. No levelling screws or protrusions are allowed on these boards or plates. They must be flat on the top and bottom.

Since this was no small task to create, (an impossibility for many of us) what do you believe to be the advantage of using steel? I don't see the mass, or rigidity as a big plus, , and the flat, slippery surface would be a serious minus; as well as the weight, vis a vis transporting. By my calculations it goes about 36lb/ 16kg.
Just curious.

Something flat for my bipod to ride on without digging into the dirt on the firing line and having to adjust elevation every couple shots. I am going to put some carpet on it for the skids.

I've seen one similar used at Perry back in 2014 during the midrange portion by a well known shooter at the time (world ftr champ). The only issue he had was the number of carpet liners he had stacked for height.
After speaking to him about it he claimed it gave him a flatter surface from which to fire from.
But if the surface is not truly flat to begin with then it's no good, I guess it's hit or miss.
