Yes,you can take a $1000.00 truck, put 2500.00 in wheels and tires on it,several dollars in the engine and tranny. When you get ready to sell it,you have a 600.00 dollar truck. Buy a Kelbly's Atlas for your rifle and be done with it.And after you've done all that work and spent all that money ........................... you still have a Remington action.
i dunno south prarie- ive got one a 77 and it was my 2nd hp rifle, so im attached to it but i wouldnt build anything off a ruger unless mabie i wanted the CF for huntingIll guess that the Ruger action will get a good look now
My point exactly. Haven't tried a Kelblys action but probably will at some point, using BAT and Borden.Yes,you can take a $1000.00 truck, put 2500.00 in wheels and tires on it,several dollars in the engine and tranny. While Savage may not have 8+ companies offering replacement triggers like Remington does, I'd take the Sharp Shooter Supply on my Savage over my Rem Timney, any day. I've shot a friend's BR Rifle Basix and it, too, is incredibly smooth. The biggest detriment to the Savage action is the lack of a good trigger.
Months later and you'll still be waiting for that bomber to leave the air field. Their product delivery has been hit or miss, in my experience and others I chat with.I vote for the PGT bomber action.
The POS extractor is the greatest issue holding Savage actions back, IMO. That only applies when you push your loads to the max limits. If you ever had to hammer out a case from the bolt, you'd know why you need a Sako extractor!
While I appreciate a beautiful rifle, and have a few, I don't hold onto my rifles for their looks. Hafta admit, there is only one Savage in my safe that might come close to qualifying as a "good looking rifle." When I was a pup, young - dumb - and full of ---, a mentor preached to me the performance value of big and ugly. Many decades later I can confirm, he was right. There is no doubt that Savage builds a very accurate factory gun
and there have been lots of custom rifles that have been built on Savage actions, but you will have to ask yourself, do I want to date
or marry an ugly girl????
Sure is!Ill guess that the Ruger action will get a good look now

Hell let them think and believe that, there will be more of the fine old Rem 700 actions for us, that know, to buy and work with. Some just drink the cool aid without checking out rumors and things they are told.If Remington actions are such junk how come you can't even find one on this board now that the supply dried up?
Once again the silent majority has spoken. While the very vocal minority is actually the custom action people that say a Remington is a waste of time, they are clearly outnumbered by the people who know that isn't true. Even on this forum.
The Marine Corp seems to like the Model 700. Their sniper rifles are built on them.If Remington actions are such junk how come you can't even find one on this board now that the supply dried up?

There are other snipers who use different systems. Some of these are actually better snipers than those in the Marine Corps. The Marine Corp seems to like the Model 700. Their sniper rifles are built on them.

Right. But I was speaking of the M40, M40A1, M40A3 and the M40A5.Mk13 Mod 7 is built on a stiller
properly tuned 700 actions are very accurate, but many need work on the lug contact, single pointing the threads and making the barrel bore cener line coincide with the bolt centerline, boring the action body straight. Once done they can compete at the highest levels. A friend put together a 6x hunter rifle recently on a SS 700 action. That particular action needed very little work, threads mostly. It shoots exceptionally. But, after you buy a 700 action, bolt, bottom metal for say $4-500 and sink the extra $ into accurizing you still have a 700 action that in competitive circles will not hold its value like a custom action. But, if you are happy with it, that is just fine. The Marine Corp seems to like the Model 700. Their sniper rifles are built on them.
