With Remington gone -- what "budget" action?

Like the 350 Chevy, there's millions out there that will keep them on the forefront for decades to come. I agree though there has been no reason to buy a 700 for years with all the better offerings off the shelf.

I like the Howa action....but the aftermarket support for it is miniscule compared to the 700. Same for all other actions....which is my point.

Go find a br style stock for a howa..... (obviously i mean informal/for fun/practice type BR...not hardcore load at the range and go crazy for the last 0.00001" type of BR)
Go find find a br trigger for one....

Hunting level parts....no problem
Tacticool parts....also no issues

But try to find target oriented parts and youre out of luck.

The 700 has off the shelf parts for br, hunting, tacticool, target, f-class, what have you. No other FACTORY action has that support.

Im just wondering where the aftermarket will put their focus and make the full gambit of parts for

PTG ? Could jump in!
They Make Bolts and other parts, they do make Receivers also ?
Time will tell ?
*insert sound of Lurch moaning*

I do wonder if the R700 ceases to exist as a factory offering if the “standard“ will change/evolve. Most of the customs out there today are basically quality R700s, ARC not withstanding.

I don't know why Remington went bankrupt but based on the latest version I looked at im surprise it didn't happen sooner

MUCH better is relative:)
as much as i appreciate what can be done big cube small blocks.......but come on, you can make big power for ford level money or just go buy a junk yard 5.3 and dump in boost and run 7's....... hard to argue with LS head architecture and main cap stability

“Budget Action” is misleading. The ages old idea that a gunsmith can “true” a Remington to the quality of a proper all-up match grade action borders on idiocy. I don’t care how “good of a machinist” you think they are there are few with the skills and toolmaking abilities to properly true an action. Certainly not within the cost differential.
And after you've done all that work and spent all that money ........................... you still have a Remington action.

When I started my 457 in 99’, a 4.125 stroke SBC was still kind of a novelty, especially when trying to make HP above 8000 with at the time, an 18* wedge head. The LS is a good stock platform for sure. I will still take the canted valve or SB2.2 drag race head for max normally aspirated power though.

Stock block LS woes....my buddies Patterson Super Stock LS engine should be on its way back from them next week, its third Bryant billet crankshaft.
