with jewell out of business(for the near future), what are BENCHREST shooters using for triggers?

The best thing you can do to make a B&A better is to go inside the trigger and buff the contact points just like Alex Wheeler pointed out years ago. About a half hours work. I've done all 31 that I own and not a problem since and I've had a few that had issues.

Why in the world would i pay that much for a trigger, and then have to work on it to make it function properly?

I knew someone was going to say that Wes and I know what your saying. It's like why would someone pay money for an action that has to be worked on. Sid told me years ago that all actions have to be worked on in some way or another, some like a Farley more than others.

I knew that you knew that I would be the one to say something.

For me.... the Jewel is all i have used. They work perfect for me. There is no need to use anything else (unless you cant get a Jewel).

I did the procedure outlined by Alex on one of my Bix triggers. The trigger was working fine- much lighter feeling and more crisp break than my jewells. I just wanted to know if it could be better. Polishing the contact area makes the trigger seemingly lighter and even smoother.

I have never taken a jewell apart. Never had too. When I have had problems with them not firing due to trash, just spray them out with break cleaner and lighter fluid. All os well.

You can’t do this with a Bix. They need to be kept clean and dry or they will not work. Not a bad thing- just fact. That said, I still use both and am happy with both. I have a couple of Bix triggers in my range box that I could easily change out the Jewells with. No need to as I see no added benefit.

I never ever had to clean a B&A trigger. If you don't have a good bore guide then stuff will get inside any trigger. There is nothing wrong with the old Jewell triggers. You can Blueprint them and they work even better, not quite as good as a B&A. The new Jewell's I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for one. I mentioned this before, if you have a new build from Borden he won't even offer to sell you a Jewell trigger anymore. That tells you something.

I'll put this here.
Johnny,
I am sending you the presentation of the triggers that we produce now. As you will see, the Br trigger mechanism has remained the same, we have only closed the cases, a modification much appreciated by our shooters. Unfortunately we still don't have dealers in the USA. I know that some shooters from USA take the older model from Canada from : https://store.xtremegunshootingcent...e=product_info&cPath=158_161&products_id=1303

Instead, the new model will be shipped from Australia, where we sell a lot.

Best Regards

Luca

I agree. I use custom bore guides. When my B&A fail to fire, I first tried to spray it out like you can a jewell. It did not work.

I hesitantly took it apart looking to see why. There was no visible trash in it. I surmised that while cleaning the chamber, I must have gotten a little oil on the trigger mechanism since this is when the problem started. Could not have been much as I am careful to avoid doing this. I cleaned all parts and made sure all parts were nice and dry, put it back together and have had no problems since.

It don't take much for a Bix to stop functioning properly. I don't care if you use a bore guide and wear rubber gloves in a clean room. A piece of air borne lint or a tiny fuzzy inside is all it takes. I've taken them apart and cleaned a clean trigger and haven't found anything and it works again.

On the jewel subject, I find it baffling that they can't find an EDM shop willing to wire parts? Maybe sourcing a laser to cut might be better?

IMO, Flavio or Bix is best so far...

I have several recent production Jewell BR triggers. All function flawlessly.

Those that have been around this game a while will remember that in the early 2000's, the upper levers that Jewell had being done by an outside source had the pivot pin position placed incorrectly....I had one. This caused a lot of grief for Jewell, as you can imagine. They stepped up and corrected the issue.

I'm sure they aren't interested in repeating that scenario and are making sure the new vendor will produce parts to their specification.

At last weekends NBRSA tournament at Webster City, Iowa there were two shooters loading by me that experienced problems with their Jewell triggers. I gave them some aerosol brake cleaner to clean them and a bottle of lighter fluid to flush them out after the brake cleaner. They fixed them between relays and were back in business.

Good shootin' -Al

FWIW, according to Chris Harris, this applied to early ones, For some time now this is done .

Well according to me who has 31 of them, 2 bought less than a year ago new when I took them apart they were the same as the old ones. Nothing had changed. I take what Chris Harris has to say with a grain of salt. I have dealt with him a few times with issues of certain things on those triggers including metal fatigue on a certain part.

Well i think i accedently deleteed my own post. I have this trigger. It's a fantastic trigger that doesn't suffer the same problems the b&a have been noted for.

Thats is a fantastic trigger
