Why is AR Comp the Red Headed Step Child?

stands for T-zed. (Euro thing for T-zero.)
They like it, we like it, so there you go.
Thank you for the interest. The three powders so far really are quite excellent, so hopefully we can stay in front of the logistics if you guys start a run on these.
Shoot well,

Paul,
I run all three and am impressed with how well they stay in tune for 40*F-100*F.
After much testing, the load I developed for my dasher was amazing. Loaded with RL-16 I could count on my dasher being in tune regardless of temp.
Nice work!

TZ is Bofors' trademarked process, and stands for T-zed. (Euro thing for T-zero.)

Can you just short cut Ar Comp to make it faster?

I believe there is a need for a gap tz technology powder myself as well. The last time this came up, ar comp was suggested by @Alliant Reloading (thanks Paul). Anyway, Glen got out with some in BRA with 103 class bullets, and it acts a bit faster in that scenario than 8208. R16, while able to drop tube enough for a dasher, was just to slow for the BRA in my own testing. 16 seems to act a lot more like 4350 than varget if comparing to H powders.

Could you describe "faster"?

Maybe like a Reloder 15.5 TZ?
That might be a good idea.

Paul,
It also seems the AR Comp burns cooler than RL15 did.

This is judged by how hot the barrel is to the touch when practicing 200 yard sitting and 300 yard prone rapid strings.

Do you know if it is a fact that AR Comp burns cooler and may decrease throat erosion because of that trait?

Thanks George

Pressure pretty early on in charge weight/velocity. That's what I remember when @GlennK shared his experience. Tagging him on here in case I'm not remembering correctly.

Tom
Yes, I shot it in a Krieger and a rock creek with a 103 gr bullet. They both pressured out sooner than 8208 and h4895. It still shot ok ( I thought ) and can dig up some data if people want to try it. It wanted to shoot at a charge that was hard on cases, so I switched to h4895. It does shoot lighter bullets well though.

I’ve used ar comp for all the matches I’ve shot in the last couple of years in my 6Br ackley imp. i didn’t get to shoot not one this year though. It shoots good meters great, but like others have mentioned you run into pressure up there where you need to be in powder ,well pretty close. I ran around 29.90 I do believe have to look back to confirm speeds around 2940-2960. My personal thought which is nothing to y’all but I really thought I was getting pretty bad erosion in there. So you had a velocity you were trying to hit and it pressured out before you hit it?

Yes, I was trying to get up to around 2980 or so ,that barrel shot better up there ,all the other ones shot better around 2920. I’ve got it wrote down just have to look.

So just to be clear. You could not reach the upper velocity and the other powders would reach it? But AR COMP would not?

Some years back I tested 8208 for temperature sensitivity two different times from 6Dasher's. Both times it resulted to be the least sensitive of all the powders I tested that included H4895 and Varget. As to AR Comp, while I have not tested it myself, I put strong credit in my sources who have !.!.!

I've used 8208XBR in 6XC and then 308WIN for Palma shooting (155.5's & SRP brass) for several years. Worked great for both.

A good friend, US Veterans Team member was using AR Comp for Palma, seemed to like it so I bought six or seven pounds to mess around with.

But I never got around to it.

Put the 6XC aside for a few years, got turned onto Benchmark for Palma by another friend, never looked back.

I have that AR Comp still, unopened, if anybody withing 50 miles of La Crosse Wisconsin is interested. Got several 1 lb 8208XBR and an unopened 8 lb'er too I'd like to find a new home for.

Obviously this would have to be face-to-face transaction. I'm not able to ship HAZMAT. Contact me by PM if you're interested.

In that particular barrel I never tried another powder in it. That was just the powder I was using then, i shoot just one gun all the time in heavy and light,it was a Brux barrel, no turn neck. I just couldn’t get it up there in that barrel where it shot best, but I just kept it down from pressure with lower charge and just ran with it.

Shot AR COMP in my 6bra fireforming with 80 Bergers and so far I'm very impressed.

31.5 grains were as high as I went and there was no pressure at all.

The decoppering agent is very impressive.
