I just built a bench gun on the Shilen Select Match blank with a 1-14 twist, mine I ordered with the 4 groove ratchet rifling. This was simply because I never tried one, and since this was only because I acquired a Panda action with 223 bolt face, in a old McMilan BR stock, I new the reputation of the 222 rem for accuracy.
I have never shot a fired case. My Smith just cut the chamber Monday, 3 days ago. We rented a .246" nk minimum spec reamer from Elk Ridge Reamer rentals. Like 1911nut I'm cut to .244" loaded necks.
First day out firing the unfired 222 Lapua cases, I spent 3 rounds sighting in with 23.0 grn H322 using Remington 7 1/2 primers. With 3 shell I had left from sighting in I shot the 3 shot group.

That was aiming at the square on the IBS emblem. So I made a final adjustment, and fired the other 5 rounds I brought with me. This was loaded with 22.5 grains of H322, and the Remington primer holding bottom of the mothball.

Needless to say, for unfired brass, just fireforming on my first trip out, I'm happy with the Shilen barrel, and have hopes for the ratchet rifling!
I took it out Wensday in the rain. With gusty switchy wind just to fire more of my brass to prep some for testing when the rain and wind stop next week. Loading from 22.3 to 23.4 grains, every 5 shot group stayed under .4". H322 and Randy Robinetts fine 52 grain Match bullet is all I have shot so far, 51 shots in.

They needed trimmed running .007" difference from long to short and now I have my bushing to start with .003" neck tension. I will be centering my loads around the 23.0 grain range as it is again in the rain staying under .250" with 5 shots in the unfired cases.
But I would not hesitate to suggest the Shilen barrels, I am also sure if I had built this for anything but paper, I would suggest the 1-12 twist for varmint hunting, to allow heavier bullets!
