222 bullet ?

50 grain sx and 335 was a winner in my 788 Remington. Killed a lot of coyotes with that load and gun. For accuracy 52 smk and 4895 was a bit better but not by much. I too wonder why the 50gr sx isn't mentioned more. If a gun won't shoot that bullet I figured somethings wrong. I bought so many I'm still shooting bullets with a 6.95 price sticker on them!

The only caveat to the Hornady 50-grain SX bullets is watching the twist rate (not an issue with your 1-14" barrel) combined with speed. A load that produced just at 3,400 fps in my Ruger #1B 1-12" twist, 26" barrel blew apart in mid-flight when fired from my nephew's 1-9", 22" barrel Savage. Obviously that load was right on the edge in my Ruger, but shot brilliantly. The same load was also my choice in my .223 XP100...obviously with less velocity with its 15" barrel.

I have shot a lot of the 50 grain sx in my 22-250 on coyotes slowed down to around 3100 fps and gave the least hide damage of other bullets that I have tried. Wasn’t sure how it would do with the 222. I have several hundred of them and will give them a try. Thanks

My best results have been with 40 v-max's and IMR-4198. About 21.0 with a CCI-400 primer which is the key to this load I think.

52 Bergers, 52 Sierra HPBT's, 50 Speer TNT's, 50 Blitz,... my gun probably liked these 2 50's better than any of the 52's and it definitely is a 1in14 (old Rem 700 BDL in 222).

I've tried BLC-2 and maybe H335 (which is also great with 52's), and Reloder 7, and different things through the years but I keep coming back to IMR-4198 and the 40's will give you a little extra range of flat shooting.

So my 222 findings

Please keep us posted, I'll provide some 222 experience that applies to older and maybe? Your CZ? 222 will either love or hate boat tail bullets; in flat base bullets, the speer 50gr TNT is really hard to argue with, and now that I've put that out into the ether, I'm sure their prices will go up... However, I'd recommend that you do a "general" check of FB vs BT and see if your rifle points to one or the other.

The 222 made its accuracy reputation with bullets in the 50 - 52 gr weight but I like the 40 gr V-Max and the 40 gr Nosler BT in it. They give as good of accuracy as can be resonably expected in a hunting rifle, they are a bit faster and just work well with the 222.

I found that one out the hard way. Seeing the performance in the 222 I figured I'd try them in my 220 swift. Though I was seeing things when I looked at the target! A few made it far enough downrange to make minute holes in the target but none were 224 in diameter! Lol. Called hornady and they explained I didn't have a bad bunch of bullets, just pushing them to hard. This was early in my loading career and really had me scratching my head. Kept their use to 222 and 223 and it's still my go to in222 for coyotes.

In every box that I received, every thousand rounds of them that I bought each box had a warning and it do not run over 3400 ft a second

In the 70's my 700 Varmint Special did amazingly well with 50 gr. SX and IMR 4198. It shot so well it got me into Benchrest comp. My current .222 is another 700 that was built for Heavy Varmint Class and likes 52 gr. Barts behind 24.0 gr. N-133.

Midway has a bunch of bullets on sale. I bought 600 52gr Varmints (one of my faves) for $9./100 and free shipping.

I'm wanting a 222, in my powder supply I have some IMR 4895 and Benchmark, but not seeing many loads listed in my manuals for these powders or other powders I have. My concern is can I get a decent group with either of these powders. I don't want the frustration of finally finding a powder, then it doesn't 'work'. Frustration should not be part of a hobby. I've been in need of 17 Hornady Hornet brass for a couple of years, more than enough frustration with that one. I've got enough for gophers but not enough to really 'tune' the load. Oh well, fall back, dig in, save the equipment, tomorrow will be a better day.

Mike Walker mentioned to Precision Shooter in 1976 his current load was a 52g bullet over 24.5g IMR 4895 , “bullets seated to touch the lands”

That load shot well for me but it’s a compressed load.
In two of my guns N133 shot smaller.
