What’s with the hate for 6.5CM in some circles?

Interesting on the Hornady brass. Around here, that’s the general feeling: 4-5 rounds through the press and it’s done.
So I made perfectly sure I had 200 new Lapua cases on hand on hand to fix the issue easy enough.
I ran a couple boxes of storebought 140s just to get close at 200 and stopped.
Then remembered why Savages picked at my craw so much, took the bolt out and sent it to Grimshod.
You guys might yet get plenty of opportunities to laugh and point fingers at my dumb Texas ass

This raises a question: do the big guys, like Hornady or Ruger, etc. have to license cartridges?

Could it be that the almighty 6.5x47 was not licensed to anyone and so no one could make factory rifles or ammo for it? Just musing about why no one chambers or makes ammo for the 6.5x47 Lapua: my gut tells me Lapua has been in the way of it's adoption.

Remington deserves all the trouble it's in for what it did to the 244/6mm, 280/7mm Express, and the 260. Pure stupidity, over and over, decade after decade. Yes I'm salty about it

It all boils down to the circle you are in.
Why are there 1911 haters? I have 6.
I hated Glocks, I own 5 of them now.
I went ballistic at Camp Perry when the AR's started to show up and win.
I have 3 now. Each son has one.
Bought a RPR in 6.5, love it.

Opinions are like, you know, everybody has one.
Everyone told me not to marry Flo in 1974.
Flo is upstairs Quilting now.
Be happy.
The Sun will rise tomorrow no matter what's said.
It's your money, spend it on what you want and enjoy it.

Just my 2 cents worth

Hornaday pulled off an absolutely brilliant piece of marketing genius with the 6.5 CM. Just enough different they could call it their own creation, then build and fine tune the design to deliver a round that would allow anyone, even a relatively new shooter to ring the bell at the mystical and much written about 1000yds. What a masterful piece of design and marketing they accomplished!

For enthusiasts who've spent the better part of their lives designing wildcats, and creative loadings to accomplish the same, only to see a pedestrian company come out with a inexpensive product that allows just about anyone and everyone to do the same had to be incredibly maddening. So comes the hate.

I recently became the benefactor of about 1000 rounds of once fired Hornaday brass. Having no rifle to use it in, I put together a stock Savage action and laminate stock, 24" X-caliber HV barrel and inexpensive scope and now have a crazy accurate load using the 140 SMK over H4350. It's shooting well under a quarter minute reliably out to 800 yds where my cheap scope runs out of elevation. I can probably just switch to the 142 SMK and engage with the scope I have, as it's not that far off as it is.

I'll be keeping this 6.5 CM barrel right where it is. It's a winner.

There's a fair portion of people with big egos in the shooting world. In my experience some of the CM hate seems to stem from people who feel challenged by you not having the same thing as them. I think they feel validated when people buy what they have and feel rejected when people buy something different. And/or they want to make out like they have something better than you have, and you're just a wanna-be. Of course this does not apply to everybody but it seems like I encounter it frequently, and not just over the CM. There's a ton of it in the AR15 world.

I had one guy tell me incredulously “That Creedmore (I misspelled it intentionally there) won't do anything the 6.5X55 Swede won't do and that cartridge is over a hundred years old!” I replied “That's true. But I don't own a 6.5 Swede.” He just looked at me and couldn't formulate a reply.

I was a very loud voice for this cartridge back in 2012 or so, after I looked at ballistic charts, and screwed together a rifle on a 700 action that worked well until someone offered me stupid money for it.
I was laughed at as an old fool who had his head up his arse, couldn’t read a ballistic table, etc, etc.

Now, I got another, took the Savage plunge, and I’m certainly catching hate from many of the other members of my range lease. Online as well. Is it just suddenly too popular, too quick, or what?

It isn’t a replacements for my tried and true trusty 308s, it never will be, but for me, it’s a perfect choice for what I intend to do,.. local area Benchrest and prone Precision fun shoots. It’ll go further with less effort than my 308s, runs much flatter, and gets me into load development, an area I need to improve on.

Comments? And if this has been hashed out previously, Mods p,ease delete and point me in the right direction...

Seems 6.5 Creedmoor threads still have legs. The thing I like about the round is that for many shooters it has established a new standard in accuracy. Time was when 1 MOA out of their 30-06 or 270 or 7mm mag was the holy grail. A lot more people now realize that 1/4 - 1/2 MOA is possible with very little effort and very little money in a caliber that will do most of what their preferred calibers did in the past. This is a good thing. Most shooters will not build a 5000+ dollar custom rifle in 6.5x47 or any other caliber and those calibers as a result, for most shooters, are out of reach. Could Remington, Ruger or other US gun companies have built rifles in 6.5x47? Even the European gun makers were not producing them in sufficient volume and at price points the masses could afford. Now the 6.5x55 is another story. Good round but CZ is about the only gun producer making them at a price point most can afford. Been keeping my eye out for a CZ 550 FS for a while now. Missed one a while back.

Having said that, my 6.5's won't hang with my 6 BRA in terms of raw accuracy but I've got one built on a BAT action that is very close.

Why do all the guys that have hondas “hate” harleys? Why do the guys with red tractors hate green ones? Ford, chevy... if you really, really want an argument snomobile guys get really wound up too.
It really is nothing new, just the new 270 vs 3006 debate. The more things chamge the more they stay the same.
I want an argumemt over terminal performance of brands of bullets, that would be more interesting than this caliber bs that has gone on for generations.

One of the guys that constantly ribs me over the man-bun CM is a 308 shooter. I rib him about F-class and tell him the 223 ad 308 need their own special class (FT) in order to be competitive. Like at the drag strip, they have to put Harleys in their own special class so they can compete.

Then he counters with high-power competition is stupid (I shoot HP Service Rifle), you spend all day to fire a handful of rounds. And the targets are so big you can't miss. And you have to wear those stupid leather coats that make you look like a stuffed sausage and the people that shoot HP couldn't jog 20 yards if their life depended on it.

Then he shows up at the range with Multicam ACU's and Multicam gun cases that he bought on the internet and all that jazz so he looks like he's in the Army.

People...

Creedmoor are a great example that people get way to wound up in what other people think. If a cartridge fits the ballistics you’re looking for/need for an application and has good supplies support the rest is mostly bullshit that doesn’t matter for 95% of people.

mine works fine, 6.5x47 would do the same job, so would a 260.

then again I actually do have hair almost down to my ass so of course I would have a creed ;)
