What’s with the hate for 6.5CM in some circles?

To sum it up, a bunch of cranky people mad something took off in popularity that wasn’t their favorite. If 6BR took off like a rocket in PRS circles tomorrow, you’d be seeing a ton of I-told-you-so instead, followed by complaints that all the rifle-hipsters “stole” their favorite cartridge.

I’m a huge fan of the 6.5x55, and when I saw the CM announced I knew it was going to explode in popularity between Hornady marketing it, availability, and the great performance/sweet spot 6.5mm class projectiles offer. It didn’t detract or take away anything from the Swede, my only major complaint was now I had a whole bunch of other 6.5mm shooters to compete with for bullet availability, hah!

I’ve seen the same thing, v2 with the 6mm ARC. The number of (quite frankly) cranky jerks here who’ve informed me and others many dozens of times how it’s a “stolen” design from cartridges people have shot for decades is insane. It’s just another obvious iteration of a pre-existing design targeted at a specific use-case. It doesn’t detract from 6BR/BRA, doesn’t make 6mm AR Turbo 40 or FatRat or whatever other wildcat out there any less useful. It just gives those of us who don’t like screwing around with fire-forming brass, and when feeing lazy factory ammunition, options. Yet I’ve been told dozens of times it’s a stolen design and Hornady had no right etc etc. Sorry (not sorry), that’s dumb.

What drives me nuts about this whole thing is "All the "old" cartridges that can do what the Creedmoor can," can't. At least not exactly. Yeah, the Swede, if loaded up, can outrun it. Well, try finding loaded up 6.5x55 ammo in a 'short' action that allows you to seat the bullet way out. Same with a 6.5x284. As mentioned on page 2 of this thread. The 6.5x47. How many rifles were built for this cartridge? Where do you find ammo?

Off-the-shelf long-range accuracy is why the 6.5 Creedmoor has succeeded. It's why the .260 failed. No support from Remington! 6BR? You mean the one that came from the 7mm BR Rem, that wasn't supported?

6.5 Creed isn't made of magic beans. It's made from components that will work at long range, (and closer) and massaged to run through a short action. Same thing with the 6mm Creed.

Had anybody taken the time and effort to do the same with many other rounds, and SUPPORT IT, they would be feeling the success of the 6.5 Creed.
