What’s with the hate for 6.5CM in some circles?

Let’s not forget the 7mm Rem Mag. A whole lot of hype and very little better than a standard 30-06.
The 7 Mag was Remington getting back at Winchester for their killing the 244/6mm Remington with the 243.
Winchester brought out the 264 in the late ‘50’s and hyped it as the end all Of all end all. Phenomenal velocity. High BC, flat shooting, etc.
But then, when they hit the market, nobody was getting anywhere near the same velocities touted by Winchester. The rumor was Winchester did their load development in extra long barrels. Shooters were buying 24 inch barrels.
The gun magazine gurus declared it an overhyped novelty. Bad press spread Like wildfire.
In the mean time, Remington developed the 7mm Mag, published real world data, instituted a great marketing strategy, and the rest was history. The 264 is just about extinct, the 7mm one of the most popular chamberings ever.
I always say that if Remington would have brought the 7mm Mag out in 2015, the first thing everybody would have done was neck the “new” cartridge down to 6.5 and declare it to be the greatest thing ever.
And what would they have? A 264 Win Mag.

Well, in terms of inherent accuracy - there is 6 BR and then everything else.
Edit - it just don't feed worth a damn unless you spend a little extra $$
Very hard to beat, IME. Shot many BRs. Also, shot a few 6.5x55, a 6.5/308 the year before the 260 came out, then a few 260s and a few 6.5CM.......and a 47L.

All work, and work pretty well. The 6BR was the most accurate, then the 47 and CM, both likely hard to shoot the difference in identical custom guns and loads. The Swede is right there, with the 260 a bit behind. High quality brass is key.

Use what you want, again they will all work, the 47 and CM are top contenders for accuracy in 6.5mm in my experience. I'd ignore any stereotyping in choosing what a shooter wants to use. For pure hunting the 260 and Swede have a modest gain in speed with same pressure loads.

I was a very loud voice for this cartridge back in 2012 or so, after I looked at ballistic charts, and screwed together a rifle on a 700 action that worked well until someone offered me stupid money for it.
I was laughed at as an old fool who had his head up his arse, couldn’t read a ballistic table, etc, etc.

Now, I got another, took the Savage plunge, and I’m certainly catching hate from many of the other members of my range lease. Online as well. Is it just suddenly too popular, too quick, or what?

It isn’t a replacements for my tried and true trusty 308s, it never will be, but for me, it’s a perfect choice for what I intend to do,.. local area Benchrest and prone Precision fun shoots. It’ll go further with less effort than my 308s, runs much flatter, and gets me into load development, an area I need to improve on.

Comments? And if this has been hashed out previously, Mods p,ease delete and point me in the right direction...

Ernie
I don’t hate any rifle cartridges. We have had much fun here at the expense of the mighty Creed. (Bow please) — if the Creed is bringing new shooters out or getting some shooters more involved, I say “Hail to the Chief”. I wouldn’t buy or obtain one because there are other 6.5 cartridges that will easily outperform it, Like my 6.5 Swede I’ve had for 35 years. I admit I hold a Talisman and don’t even have a 6.5 CM. Must be I’m committing a mortal Sin.!!!—- I imagine I’ll receive severe punishment for this one of these days. Hornady will probably refuse to sell me any of their Super Duper Extra Soft 6.5CM brass. Oh No!! How will I survive——. Little do they know though that I got a bunch of their 6.5CM range brass for free as it seems no one else wanted it. Hardy har har

You may be on to something there—- I do like the yellow stock anyhow. Its about time for me to get into some of that work.
I started these three and found out it’s been tooooo long! I had to go back and read my own thread for pointers! I feel like a rookie!
I go back and forth on that yellow stock. I liked it when I built it. I pulled it out in Texas and thought it was too loud to show up with. I’m new there, ya know. What would they think about a yellow Creedmoor? They might kick me out of the state!

I'm anxiously awaiting the next great thing, a 7.5 Creedmoor. It's going to shoot lathe turned, spin balanced,
politically correct solid copper bullets. Available in a short action, it'll be one step above the 7mms and .284s.

Can I get one in a long action so I can use the solid copper 378 grain VLDs I know will be available for it now that you’ve spilled the beans. They will have to add 1000 more yards onto the 1000 yard range I belong to now.

Har you have a point with the Yellow Creedmoor. You mite get run off——. I to am seriously thinking of building a 6.5 Swede. Have a barrel blank in 6.5 that needs to get fitted to an action - One thing I do know- It wont be 6.5 CM

I have 3 of them, First one was a cheap Axis to see if I was going to like shooting a Bolt Action. Then when I decided to shoot F Class I wanted a better rifle, but I had the a Hornady Match Die and didn't want to sink lots of money if it didn't work out. I could have went with a .308, love my M1A, but I also have Back, Radiculopathy, Neck and Shoulder issues. The 6.5 just doesn't tear me up over a match. Want my Man Card, Molon Labe...:D. I think 4 us shoot them at club matches, I know one that shoots at least 1 clean a match or even at practice. In another thread I joked I had 3, one for Right Hand shooting, one for Left Hand shooting and one for Carry and Concealed.
