What is involved with a license to manufacture ammunition?

Ok, to be clear I am not considering getting into this as I can imagine its an absolute paperwork nightmare. But I have always been curious what is involved with getting a license or whatever is needed to manufacture or remanufacture ammo. Does anyone here have a business that does this or know what is involved?

An ammunition manufacturing license is a type 6. It takes pretty much all the same things as any other license - local approval and license if needed, a clean record and such. Go to the ATF web site for specifics. The ATF doesn't care if you have insurance. A type 6 will not allow you to deal in firearms. It is possible to have multiple licenses.

If you want to manufacture ammunition or components thereof you need on 06. An 07 will also allow you to manufacture ammunition in addition to firearms.

Pay the fee, file a form 7 in duplicate, with two photographs & fingerprints, & ATF will make contact with you for a pre-license inspection. You will need a suitable location to conduct business, including be compliant with state laws (state level licenses/permits) & local ordinances, i.e. be zoned correctly.
