OMG!!!! this thread has become ridiculous!!! I had decided I would not comment but several days and I can't take it any more! next the 30/30 is going to be beating the 30br's on 300yard competition, I have no idea what is wrong with all the short range br shooters,...the idiots are using the 6ppc and the 30 br's what is the matter with them, with the superior accuracy edge the .223 has and the .222 I have no idea why they f.f all that brass for the ppc's and the 30br's some shooters I tell ya?................................I myself am competing at 1000 yards with my K Hornet and so far I have NEVER been beat! hopefully this year or next I can get some competition to shoot against me!

Sorry, Longwinded, but I don't think you have a clue as to what it takes to win in todays Point Blank Group (or Score) competition. THE AGG RULES. Small groups (screamers ) win patches....AGG winners win MATCHES........Rewarding the Agg winner kind of removes the "LUCK" from serious competition. Many have tried to campaign the .222 successfully in recent times.....George Kelbly comes to mind in a few Super-Shoot attempts. I have a HV .222 that is built with top level components( Edge stock, Hart BBl, Leupold 40x LCS, jewel, Rem.700 trued to the n'th degree) and using Lapua brass and custom bullets. On a calm day it will shoot with my PPC's, but if I miss a let-up, or it gets switchy.....it's not going to even agg with the top half of the field. I never seem to get to those matches where conditions were perfect throughout the day.
Believe me, there are competitors who would jump at the chance to win a registered match with "THE" cartridge that will consistently out agg the 6 PPC. The only one that might have a chance is the .22 PPC .100 short.....it won the FISS a few years back.
Your dimes and quarters fantasy about the .222 is not supported by the facts.
BTW, Mike Walker was a design engineer for Remington.....not gunsmith.
100-1000 yds.? ...........this is just one of those troll threads where nothing is learned because the OP's question has no basis in reality......I shouldn't have wasted my time responding.

+1

Gary,
I don't drink anything but water and coffee,.....period,.....EVER!....since 2000!
Everbody, poor Mr. Longfeather was not trying to say metal, nor medal, nor mettle, he was attempting to spell MENTAL Were not in grammar school here, it's okay to miss spell words now and again as even spell check won't pick them all up as metal, medal, and mettle are all words of the English language, we had a retired English teacher on here a while back that corrected everyones posts,...was almost as frustrating as this stupid thread! Oh and by the way Gary your first name should always be capitalized! ;)

I know isn't it great!.... gonna try to do some shooting today Tom, working on some rest and bag issues, hope I get her tracking better, cya in a couple weeks ;)

For what it's worth, Jackie Schmidt, shooting a 13.5 lb. heavy varmit in 30 BR. set a world record for a 5X5X100 agg.0.1118. I believe it still stands. It's a rifle he usually used for score. That is one accurate cartridge. 'Course he's one of the top shooters in the good ol' USA. Probably helps. He set this record out of a club in Midland, TX. I believe.

Hal & Ross,It looks like you guys are trying to bring this thread back to reality.I think that ship sailed and sank long ago,but I applaud your efforts. FWIW,Tom.

AN OBVIOUS SNUB.....
the target pics were posted ....
the 'SCORING COMMITTEE" could not get anywhere near what most the rest of us got.
plain bs......i have over 10 years in group measuing...others had more..but for some reason the 6ppc dominated committee could not see straight that time....

so no they were not accepted as official records..but it does not change the fact that he shot small groups with a 30 that day.

I don't think those targets were accepted as a world record.

i'll admit , i did not read 10 pages of discussion.
as in most things, one must first DEFINE before searching.
1 shot hitting the dot from a cold clean bbl..no sighters.
3 shot
5 shot
10 shot
20shot.....
what distance ??
a 222 rem will not likely beat a 308 win at 600 yds
and a 308 will not likely beat a 300 win mag at 1000yds..and then there is the dasher....

if single target 5 shot at 100 ..the winner is 222rem..as no one has beat that record.
if ag of 5x5 then i suppose it is 6ppc tho 30br has shot better....once....
no clue as to who has 10 x5 ag.....

define, then make claims...

Well it is painfully obvious to me that you didn't read the whole thread as th op claims the .222 is the most accurate cartridge period the end no matter what distance, 100-1000 yards the .222 rules the roost! wind no wind it just don't matter, you really don't even have to aim it, it will put them all into one hole at any distance period the end!!
Wayne.

so i had to go back and read a little...which you obviously did not....[
and while i dissagree..he did say this on the 2 or 3 page..
"With that said of the .222 I'd have to agree on the 6ppc for 300 yds and beyond"
so i think you have missed something....
dont pick on me go look what i said...
