The key is keeping up in the standings in both the Group and Score portion of the Match.
Some of us placed quite high in score, but really fell off of the bench in group. Others stayed in the top quadrant in Group, but just could not keep them on that 10 ring out at that distance.
As a reminder, we were shooting at a 200 yard Score target at 300 meters.
I watched many of the shooters on the other relays, Bart in particular. It was a good example of how the style of shooting from Group to Score is different. As you could see in the video posed by Wes, the group can be fired in no more time than it takes one to cycle the bolt 5 times.
Having to move the Rifle, and keep the bullets on the Moth Ball really does exemplify those that have mastered both concepts, mainly in the ability to read conditions, use the sighter, and figure out were the bullet is going to end up.
In my opinion, the way this Format is set up, it still favors the Rifle that possesses the best agging capability, that being a Rifles ability to shoot at a sub .200 on a consistent basis. The distance is still within the flag reading capabilities of most good shooters. If the shooter has reliable information telling him, or her, exactly how the conditions are affecting the bullets path, the Rifle can be steered in the correct direction. If the rifle truly does posses the agging capability required, the results will be positive..
While the Tack Driver concept is designed to attract shooters from Short Range Group, Short Range Score, F Class. PRS, and all of the other Disciplines that require the ultimate in Rifle accuracy, it is still a Benchrest Match, run under Benchrest Rules. Downrange balistics such as a bullets ability to buck conditions take a back seat to a combinations overall agging capability. That includes the bullets, the barrel, the tune, the bench equipment, ……….
And then, that brings us back to the Indian……..l.

My 30br has done well in score but to get groups smaller than a 2 hole 30br is needed .... so the 6mm bullet but hitting the 10 ring with such a small hole.. poi control is crucial....
Then Orangeburg wind decides to show out. First 150m of the field was green, 2nd half orange.
Surveyor tape fluttered like snow swirls x100
We talked of the knuckle ball effect on the bullets. On sighter aim at the x and make a ring all around it... In the 9 ring.
Imo it's a great recipe of a contest ....

That was quite the list of top ranked shooters you had there. I think you have built your Field of Dreams shoot there Mr.Cline.

Congratulations Todd! You shot great. Happy to call you a friend and shoot with you on a regular basis.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the calls and Texts! I was Exhausted and in bed early after the match. So if I didn’t answer right back that’s why. Then up and on the road at 2:30am. Nine hours, later I’m home.
I want to thank Jim Cline and Crew for a flawlessly run match, a challenging Format and a Great Time! Guys, this is a must make shoot. Clear your schedule for next year. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Equipment
I shot a 6PPC with a .273 no turn neck, Bartlien 13.5 twist barrel my 68gr boattail, Jewel trigger, Harris Tuner, Scarbrough stock, bat DS action, Topped with a great big ole 10x60 Valdada “Precision” scope with 40MM Tube. I also used V133 powder.
There’s been lots of Indian and Arrow talk. The long and the short of it is…. You’re only as good as your equipment and the equipment can only perform up to the ability of the shooter. It’s a system. I’ve won it last year with a 6BRA and now with a 6PPC. I’m telling you, caliber wise there are a lot of different cartridges and combinations that can win. Jeff Godfrey (of the Piedmont Mafia) brought his 6BRX (I believe), and it shot like a laser. Jeff was in second place at the end of day 1. If not for a couple of “Orangeburg Gotcha’s” Jeff would have been right there for the win.
Why did I shoot the 6PPC? It’s simple; the goal for this year was to try to make the World Team. So my resources were directed towards the PPC (Barrels). I didn’t buy a single long range barrel this year. I used the last of my competitive long range gear for the 600 and 1000 yard Nationals. If I had both the 6BRA and 6PPC working, for this match I’d pick the 6BRA EVERY TIME and TWICE ON SUNDAY.
Thanks Guys! It was a great match and great year personally for me.
With all the money I won I stopped and bought a couple of trophies on the way home!

While everyone is watching this thread and excited, I figured I would let everyone know that registration for Tack Driver $ will start sometime early January. I will ONLY take 100 guns for the 2023 event. The facility and space will accommodate 100 comfortably and still give people some room to spread out some. There are only 18 camping sights and I will take the first 18 people's checks that arrive for those spots. Thanks again and PLAN on Tack Driver 4 on November 2nd through the 5th. With the 4th and 5th being the match days.
Bart, Congratulations on your repeat win. That surly was an awesome display of how to make that no turn 6ppc walk the walk.
