Tack Driver 7

With small groups hitting the 0.3’s and aggs in the 0.6’s, is the time coming where a moving target backer will be required
for Group targets?

With over 3,000 targets scored, there has only been two groups that possibly a moving backer could have been useful. Both times the officials I picked to view the targets have voted unanimously on their decisions. 7 relays in one day and less than .001 % chance it’s needed negates the labor needed to use it.

It wasn't meant as an insult at all. All I'm saying it can happen with the quality of shooters today that someone might get penalized for shooting a tiny group.
Dave Tooley has set me straight, I didn't no the facts before I posted, and I apologize to all I have offended or upset. That is not my nature at all. The Tack Driver has exploded in popularity, and is getting bigger. I only hope the best for it in the future.
Please all except my apology

I was one of a 3 man crew brought in to check a target that was very difficult to find 5 shots on. We were not told the competitor. We were instructed to not talk about our decision with each other. We were each given a coin. heads up was 5 on, heads down was less than 5. When we all had decided we uncovered our coins at the same time. It was unanimous. We didnt know the competitor or each others decision until it was done. Theres no way to be biased with that.

Thanks for your PM as well as the public apology. I am as straight forward as they come on rules and following them. I personally score every target in this event and have no way of knowing or remembering who is on what relay or bench for 140 shooters and even if I did know who’s target it is, it would have NO impact on my decision. Normally we have tough enough conditions that it not even probable but virtually impossible. Look at the current record group shot this year and it is clearly 5 bullets but sometimes you have to break out the 10x magnifying glass or even a 20x jewelers loop. If I have one that I think could cause controversy or it takes a high magnifying glass to make the call, I will go get 3 people that know how to use the measuring tools available and also DO NOT have any relation to that target or the competitor. Alex stated the process very well and it is a decision made by ONLY looking at the target and not knowing whose target it is with NO discussion between the 3 until the decision is made. 3 independent professional opinions and that decision is FINAL. Those are the conditions I explain at every starting safety meeting of the Tack Driver. Hope this helps.

Again all please accept my apology. I have the utmost respect for you all and what you do. I am sick thinking that I have upset so many people. That was not my indention.
This will be my last post here, all the best to you all, and to the Tack Driver crew and Jim Cline, all the best in the future.

Don't worry about it. You didn't upset anyone. A legit suggestion, and replies as to how things like that are handled. We are not so soft we can't talk about things. Thats how sports go to hell. A few take the reins and everyone else is to scared to talk up against it. Then your just along for the ride. Wish more would voice their opinions on the direction of THEIR sport they shoot.

The openness of the Tack Driver match is the attraction. That and the personalities of the participants and director. I trust that any changes made will be to the benefit competitors. WH
That plus the camaraderie of shooters, regardless of their formal shooting organizations, being able to freely assemble and participate in an activity we all love! At least that was my take from the videos posted of the shooters meetings and award ceremonies…

I AM HAPPY TO MAKE A FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT THAT TACK DRIVER 7 WILL BE HELD AT MGGOA (Dublin, Georgia)! This is a phenomenal range and great opportunity for the Tack Driver as well as the gun club! My hopes and plans are to have 180 shooters on site for this event! STAY TUNED FOR MORE EXCITING NEWS ON THE MATCH OF THE YEAR!

What a great opportunity for this match to take the next step on its phenomenal journey. I can’t wait to get to experience the match at this range and shoot the new targets Jim has cooked up for us. Thanks Jim for your tireless work to make the Tackdriver the best event ever.

That's surprising news. Will Dave's burner barrel have a place?
This has to come with some logistical challenges. A change of venue always does.
For myself, part of my training regimen, in preparation for next year, has included negotiating obstacles getting to the benches. Balancing, sidestepping, pivoting and such. Will these skills still be needed?
I look forward to hearing more. WH

Have no fear Bill, Dave and Jeff are regular visitors at MGGOA.

For the lucky ones getting the phone call tomorrow that are the waiting list, here is your registration form for this match. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THIS IN UNLESS YOU GET A CALL FROM ME TO SEND IT. I will happily add anyone to the waiting list by PM on this site with your name and a phone number or a call to the phone number on the registration form.
