So....Why DID you buy a Savage?

I already used a car analogy to describe a Savage. ;)

http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3838694.0

I bought my Savage LRPV because I wanted to try a 6BR and it was the quickest and I am going to say the least expensive way for me to make that happen. I like my LRPV although it had it's problems. I am not a competition shooter but primarily a Varminter so I don't have the same expectations. I would never sell my LRPV I like it that much, and when I burn the bbl out I am looking forward to doing the change myself. I will say that although I've often thought of owning another Savage and went through all the motions like pricing etc. I've not bought another. For me maybe once was enough.

So, 85 replies and I have been proven right. Not a single Savage owner has answered "Quality" or "Great trigger". Almost everyone of you has bought one because they are the "CHEAPEST"!

Thanks you all for reinforcing what I have been saying all this time. Oh, and remember.... Friends don't let friends shoot Savages! ;)

I bought one because a friend had one that shot so well- that has nothing to do with price. They are economical as I mentioned but that doesn't mean they don't perform well. Fancy walnut or a big name don't mean anything to me.

There will always be people that believe if something costs more it must be better. Sometimes that is true, sometimes it isn't. Savage makes guns that are pretty accurate out of the box, and if a person wants to change/modify their rifle it is fairly simple to do at home.

Accuracy and adaptability are why I like Savages. Maybe, hopefully someday I'll shoot better than they do but that day isn't here yet.

Well with 85 replies from people who bought Savages, I would say that "If friends don't let friends buy Savages, you must be a lonely guy! LOL!!!

You know I'm not. ;)

Take it to the SuperShoot and take all their money. ;)

Even I got a chuckle out of that.

This thread has stayed pretty civil, the good natured ribbing being played by both sides- well done all.

I got my first Savage because a buddy had one that shot so well that I thought it would be something to look into. I have never been to the SuperShoot but would love to, and am eagerly looking forward to my first opportunity to come in last at an actual shooting comp.

To me, Savages are like Corvettes. Think about a car rag comparison between a Corvette and an X, will it be a Mustang? A Charger? A WRX? Probably not. As a general rule Corvettes are compared to Ferraris and Posches etc, cars that cost much, much more and have the fit, finish and refinement that people who buy those higher end vehicles expect for their money.

Corvettes perform very, very well. Well enough that they often times meet or even exceed the performance of those that cost exponentially higher. Will you ever convince the driver of a Ferrari that he would be just as well served with a Chevy? Probably not. At the same time do you see a lot of Corvettes in F1? Could an F1 driver do as well in a tuned Corvette? Perhaps, but we'll probably never know.
I own a couple of Porsche's myself ;) Fit and finish, quality of components, handling and power 8) the corvette isn't in the same league ;D I also owned a corvette at one time :-[ Won't make that mistake again >:( After the time and money invested in it, it's still a corvette ;D

The Porsche Carrera gt was a full 6 seconds slower then a production corvette at the Nürburgring!!!! If that is what you call handling I will buy the much less expensive vette..Rumor is the new Z-28 Camaro smoked it also

Porsche :o Lets not talk about porsches quality problems....(camshaft countershaft bearings) on the carreras..... You could buy a new car for the price of that fix....

Just saying, I am sure the Porsche is sporting a better fit and finish and the interior is no match I'm sure but lap times rule the rest to just opinion!

I'm a Chevy man through and through but, I hate Corvettes and I hate Camaros even more! The only Vettes that catch my eye are the pre Maco Shark, roadster style, Vettes and as far as Camaros go the only ones I find aesthetically pleasing are the 70-72 with the big grills and especially the ones with the split front bumpers! Speaking of Chevy's 70-72 lets not forget about the 1st generation Monte Carlo ;)! Yeah, they were big long boats but damn I think they're sharp!

To me, the only way this statement makes sense is mattri confused the Corvette with the Corvair.......Corvair is the UGLY unrefined one. ;D
But seriously, when Kibbles and Bix makes a replacement trigger for Savage ...look out! ::)

Maybe it says more about me than about my Savage, but my Target Accutrigger is the best I've ever used, bar none.

Then, again, I'm not one of those guys who adjusts it down to three ergs.
