why didn't you buy a Savage???

I wanted to leave them on the shelf for all the shooters who need an acurrate out of the box rifle that they can change there barrels to an aftermarket one that might shoot more than 20 rounds before fouling to the point of not shooting.

I agree with you on this, factory Savage barrels do foul terribly bad! I can't lie, all this anti Savage rhetoric is getting to me and making me wish I had the coin to upgrade to a custom action! It would probably be a Pierce just because he is a local for me and not to mention one hell of a nice guy!

Because I had a lot of good shooting Remingtons and a Sako. Now most of my guns are built on BAT actions and jewel triggers and would never go back. Once you shoot a Bat with a jewel you get spoiled. Matt

I think they're ugly, too, but then again there are lots of things pioneered by accuracy shooters that were (are) considered ugly -- scopes (vs. irons), stainless (vs. blued), synthetic stocks (vs. wood), free-floated barrels (vs. closely inletted), short fat barrels (vs. longer thinner barrels). I think that falling blocks are a lot more attractive than bolt actions, but every rifle in my safe is a bolt action because accuracy is what matters to me.

Because I look at everything I do besides a need as what it really is, a luxury.

Shooting is not a necessity, so, I treat it as luxury. I also hate being frustrated, so I buy reliable and functional actions to serve my intended purpose. I rather have one great gun than 5 mediocre guns. I also know my limitations. I leave things to the professionals. When my expectations exceeded what most "professionals" did, I learned to do it myself and I learned from one of the best in the business and that has a PROVEN track record. I can't trust someone to mass produce chambered barrels, they don't fit my needs.

I am consistent in with how I think. I'm not much of a drinker, but when I drink, I like good beer or good wine, not the cheapest thing that will "get the job done."

I applied the same concept when I was looking for a wife!

Same here. I cleaned the safe up a while back and used the money to buy a real nice rifle. My only savage went down the road.

raythemanroe, I really like my Coopers. I've always been a sucker for a nice piece of wood and for an accurate rifle. Right now my favorite is a model 21 in 6mm ppc that I bought used a while back, it is light, easy to handle and pretty accurate. It was fun learning to load for it, I had a lot of help from this forums members, one person in particular. I have a Montana Varminter on order in 6.5 x 47 L, can't wait . I better stop... I think I might be rambling and hijacking the thread.

I bought a couple - the 10 FP needed bedded and the barrel needed lapping, so now it doesn't foul any more than anything else, and shoots as well as anything. 5 shots at 100 yds., in about 0.3". I don't remember exactly. The target AccuTrigger is an excellent trigger. Try one before you don't buy one. If 100 yds isn't far enough, I also tied for first in the only F/TR match I've shot with it, at 540 yds. I just finished one for a friend, which is identical to mine, and which also shot about 0.35" for 5 shots at 100 yds, just using the same ammo I use.
Got a 12 with fairly decent Savage synthetic stock, and bedded and lapped it (it's a stainless action and barrel), and it shoots about 0.4" for 5 shots at 100 yds. The accuracy might be better, but with this load, I wanted more velocity, so I am not on a node. Did not win the F/TR match I shot with it at 600 yds, but was out of first place due to 3 missed wind reads, which resulted in a 6, 7, and 8 score. The other 17 were all 10's/X's except for 6 9's. First place that day/relay was 192/200.
They are not as ugly any more.
The only defective component is the shooter. Of course, a custom rifle by one of the great gunsmiths that work for the F-class crowd will outperform my rifles. But not by much, and not if there is one wind call wrong in my favor. You've just got to decide what suits you best. My rifles also have to be able to go hunting, and that pretty well makes the decision right there.
