Seller Beware -- Ebay and Gunbr***r

I just sold a scope on G*******r. When I sent the buyer the invoice, he replied with a question about the scope that indicated there might be something wrong with it. It is absolutely perfect. When he paid by PayPal he expressed concern that it be very well packaged....in broken English. This was deja vu.

A year ago I had an almost identical reply by a buyer on Ebay. When he paid for the item by PayPal he expressed concern that it be very well packaged....in broken English. When he received the item he claimed it was defective, and wanted to negotiate for a partial refund. I refused, and issued a full refund and paid return shipping. When I got it back I found there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I was pissed, but I let it die.

I sent G*******r an email explaining my situation, but I may not hear from them for a week, if ever. If I refund the payment, the seller can leave negative feedback for me, but I can't leave feedback for him. If I close the sale, I can be removed from G*******r. I've used them a good bit over the years and have excellent feedback. I hate to lose that, but I'm inclined to just refund the payment and let the chips fall where they may. I don't intend to get burned twice.

Am I being paranoid? Has anyone else had an experience like this, or have a better suggestion?
Seems buyers are well protected, and seller beware.

Thanks guys,

Gerry

Your gut almost never lies to you... If you feel something is wrong there normally is.... Sometimes you just have to do things you don't like... I would rather take the chance on a bad review than getting burned and getting a bad review....

If you have them use PayPal Friends & Family, there is no dispute resolution and/or refunds.

Only you can decide whether or not you are comfortable with that......Just saying
If he takes paypal f&f he wont get charged the 3%- the seller pays that- but he risks getting his acct locked up for firearm related items

There are no fees with F&F on either side that is why it is a questionable practice....Just saying.
Any transaction that involves "firearm type" transactions can get your account locked.

Sorry Big Daddy but the sender pays the fee for “friends and family”. I’ve paid it a few times.

Sorry joshb.....
I sent a couple out this week to friends and just reviewed my account....NO FEES.
I have NEVER been charged a fee on a F&F.

Mine is a "business" account so maybe that is the difference.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me here on AS. The guy bought a big Dillon. I took the time to package it. It was even double box nothing could go wrong. It was made in the 1990's used very little. It was also a little dirty. Before I sold it I used and produced about 200 rnds of ammo with it. I had it all torn apart, greased it put it back together. Was it perfect NO, was it a good deal YES. He pays for it with paypal then calls and gives me a kinds of grief doesn't give me time to respond, has the money tied up in paypal. Then he tries to get me to give him a substancial amount of money back. I told paypal to have him send it back on his dime or I'm not giving him any money back. It was used it was a good deal and he had plenty of pictures. He was just trying to get it cheaper than he already did and it didn't work. When paypal told him to send it back, then it was ok. I then got my money back in my account. Buyer beware if it doesn't seem right run. If you get cought like I did and you know in your heart that you are not doing anything wrong, STAND YOUR GROUND. People will understand especially if you already have a good rating. Some people just can't be pleased or are trying to get something for nothing. I haven't seen that guy here since.

Start getting addresses from the buyer BEFORE you agree to sell.
I have had several buyers want to buy items and they were wanting me to ship them to a couple of places in Florida. When I looked at the address it comes up as a shipping broker.
I wont sell to them.

Thanks for the opinions. I understand now why many sellers only accept checks and money orders. I didn't know scopes were verboten on PayPal. I've bought and sold a couple that way.

I've been buying and selling on various sites nearly since the beginning of the net without much problem; but it's starting to get scary.

Heres one from today. 3% fee on f&f. Ive never got out of it. He will get his exact $22

If you pay with a card there is a 3% fee. If PP drafts from a bank account or from your PP fu ds there is no fee for either party.

Yep, I just sent PP F&F to another member that I just bought a Savage from. I used a CC and was charged the 3%. I knew it was going to happen up front, and I wanted to get the seller paid quickly.

Scammers are alive and well on G......r.com. I have an long gun for sale there. One pic I have it sitting in a homemade cleaning cradle.

Got this message from a member: "Is a rifle bench rest sand included with the purchase"?
Sure pal, for the buy it now price. Probably from Nigeria.

Had the ebay scam pulled on me too. Said the item wasn't as described. ebay wanted me to refund. I called them and told them no way, item was as described as I had multiple other photos I could send them to verify it. They didn't ding me but the guy got his stuff for free. I'm sure he sold it. Nice way to double free money.

Unfortunate, but it's the same as on here. Members on sale sites with little to no trade history can be risky.

I tried 2 different times to set up an account to sell on G......R.com,,got rejected both times, something about my bank account.

I sold a Sightron scope once to a forum member (another site, not here) that was as brand new. After he had it in his possession for three days, he sent me a picture of the objective lens cracked right in the middle! Wanted a refund. I asked for pics of the shipping box and he told me he had already thrown it away. I balked at this as I’m almost anal when it comes to good packaging. I could tell from pics that scope had been hit hard, and told him so. He ‘fessed up, turns out he had dropped the scope on a cement floor. The objective end was actually slightly oval shaped! He sent it to Sightron to have it repaired, and believe it or not, they replaced it at no charge to him. Buyers CAN be unscrupulous at times.

I have bought several items off the forum over the past few years. All purchases went smoothly. Sellers please don’t let a few rotten apples spoil this for all. Again, nothing but positive experiences for me. Tom.

Number 1 way to verify sales (on either side) is talking to the person live, by voice, on the telephone.

In every single problem case I have assisted with in 2019, where issue was with the buyer, the Seller had NOT talked to the buyer, live, by voice, on the Telephone.

Pick up the phone guys!!!
