Deadbeat seller, beware

A few other forums I hang out on have a frequently updated "Deadbeat" sticky at the top of the classifieds forum. A deadbeat addition can only be approved by a mod. Pretty effective and at least keeps the repeat deadbeats from multiple offenses.

And while we're on the subject of USPS, their shipping insurance is a scam as well.

Yea, when they ask you how much insurance you want they sell it to you and charge you for that amount of coverage. However when you file a claim you have to prove what was in the box has the value that you payed insurance for. Kinda funny, they aren't concerned about the value when you are buying it and happy to take your money for any amount but when you have a claim then you need to prove what was shipped is actually worth that much. Either having proof of what you paid for it or proof from auction site, ebay or the company that made it if still available and actually cost that much to replace. They should collect proof of value at time of accepting item but then they couldn't screw the consumer if that were the case. Government entity at its finest!

Then they hold on to it while they're completing their "investigation." So when the whole item costs $500 and they broke a $50 part, you're out the whole thing for months. Last time I just said screw it and bought the replacement parts.

I know several folks that work for the USPS. They don't use USPSMO's. First I just don't understand why sellers stipulate them. Why are you making me walk around town with $$$$'S of dollars to go buy one when I can have my bank or credit union draft one made out in the sellers name and drop in the mail? Or cut a certified check straight out of my account? Second, there was a huge run of USPS counterfeit MO ' S not too long ago and my banks just don't like to see them for deposit. They REALLY look at them closely. Best advice I can give for folks that have run into Large losses I think the only option is small claims court. People seem to change their tune when they get a letter from a court. Yes it does cost you money for a local attorney but they can file the paperwork remotely. Key is to have all the electronic documentation to forward. Finally... we all do need to make the effort to post both positive and negative feedback.

Ed
