Scope for one mile

Its about as solid as a cold bore or an old 50’s model lyman.
Dusty you also said in your other post, " not including that thing which I've never seen". How can you say it's not solid if you have never seen it?
I've never had one or used one but I've read a lot about them and everyone says they work as described. I've had lots of externally adjusted scopes and they all worked great and tracked as good or better than the new stuff. I quit using them because today's optics are better and more magnification.
I've also used Ivey mounts, 2 different ones they are externally adjusted. I could go from a 100 yds to 3300 yds and back and be dead on.

I like the ivey mounts

Not as of the last time I talked to him. That was the first one I had. Then like a fool I sold it here and later bought the rings one.
I had a gen one, sold it for a 30mm ring one and sold that to get a newer gen picatinny but they stopped making it. Now i need a 34. I use a gen 4 modified cold bore now. Its not an ivey but works fine and adjusts spot on

True. Rob Brantley won in 2018 with a Bushnell Elite Tactical XRS II. No need to spend $5K to hit a mile.
Nope.
Years ago I was shooting 1600 wit a vortex HS-T and having success with it.
Glass on that certainly wasn’t great for spotting especially with some mirage.

If your not into the Two Mile or ELR. There is no reason to spend a ton of money to shoot just to One mile. Especially if your just out messing around and not competing or more for your own satisfaction. The first time I accomplished 1 mile was with Leopold Veri X III 4.5- 14 with a Target Dot. on a Remington 700 Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag with a 40 MOA Ken Farrell Base. Once i got on target i went 4 for nine shots in the North Dakota Wind. That was 20 years ago. Later years and currently an NXS 22X Night Force. Been shooting on a 36" Round Gong at over 1800 yards for decades with what we all would consider normal none specialized gear. Its the nice thing about having your own farm land to be able to stretch it out when you feel the desire.
ELR has brought some pretty innovative gear to the Market and its fun to see all the new stuff. Glad they are out there stretching the distance and all of our imaginations along with it. Pretty darn cool.

I think you have it about right since the original question was about mile shooting. I happen to like Valdada and Delta 'scopes -- indeed, if I could pool the coin right about now I'd be buying one of the new IOR 1/8MOA SFP Precision 'scope. Way more 'scope than I need, but took a look at one at the SHOT Show and man I want one.... :-) (There is a difference between want and need, but I will never tell my wife that)
That said, my #2 mile rifle has an MOA Vortex Strike Eagle sitting on top of it, although when I rebarrel the 300WM I will swap the 'scope out. I bought the Vortex when they first came out because I wanted to see what they were like, and for the price, it's OK. Works for me on #2 at 1,800 yards.
I will say this though... I'd certainly buy a 'scope with a tube diameter of 34mm or higher. The view is better and you'll probably get more elevation adjustment.

But its a march, which is a turnoff to most that were around in their early days, its externally adjustable which is a turnoff, and it cant be set in different rings to change the height. March scopes, not including that thing which ive never seen, are always darker when set side by side with others. Seems i only see the march majority in f-class anymore. I guess yall buy em all up
I had to laugh when I read the above.

Now, before I go any further, I totally get that this level of sophistication is not needed for 1 mile shooting. The only reason I'm responding here is to dispel some of the statements being presented as "facts."

If you're not interested in that, skip to the next post.

I'm not sure what we don't like externally adjustable; I have seen some pretty kludgy setups to get to longer distances and I appreciate a simple, all in one solution. No huge rings built on top of think rails. No prism in front of the objective, etc. Also, by having external adjustments, the IQ through the riflescope is always at maximum.

The Genesis riflescopes also come with an add-on elevation insert if you need one for your application. No need to buy anything else.

I believe Dusty made up his mind about March scopes 14-15 years ago, in the early days, as he stated, and he never looked at another one ever again yet feels qualified to make general statements about them. This is about his statement that they "are always darker".

Yes, they are quite well established in F-Class, and it's not because they "are always darker" than other scopes. I also take advantage of the resistance (not invulnerability) to mirage distortion afforded by their Super ED glass.

I do look at probably more scopes than most both at matches and on new rifles

NF ATACR in 5-25 or 7-35 F1 OR F2 depending what you prefer and call it a day.
Don't get me wrong,i also like SB and Kahles scopes.

I like my sightron 8-32 SIII. Glass is decent, i never had anything else to compare to however. On 32x it isnt as bright as i’d like especially on overcast days, but it works well and i can see fine enough. 24-26x is definitely brighter but i like the zoom.

its second focal plane. I dont mind math. Lol its a 300 wsm and i dont have enough elevation to get on with the cross hair alone. Had to use the mil dot hold overs. With the old load 210 vld i had to back off to near 24x to get enough mil holdover. New load with 208 berger i can leave it on 32x and its just 1.5 or so dots more or 1.12 mil (.75 each dot at that power). Just have to refer to the chart to know how power changes the measurements lol

i hunt with it so in the unlikely event a short range shot happens late, atleast the reticle is big and easy to see at 8-12 power ranges. And at late evening 16-20x is still very visible. FFP i have seen gets way small and thin on some scopes

@birdog has the Genesis on his 375CT and I have not seen him complain. In fact, he has given it a definite thumbs up.
As for 1 mile shooting (the actual subject of the thread) my 300 NMIMP has a NF ATACR 5-25 SFP (mils) and my 338LM a Tract Toric 4.5-30 FFP with Mil turrets. As of now they have only seen "chip shot" targets at 1,250 Yards but hoping that changes soon.
