Scope help

What do you guys like most.. Retical in the first focal plane or the 2nd focal plane. Please give reasons why? I am trying to decide on a scope. Thanks

long range target and hunting. I do have a range finder though. Just wanted to see what people like most.

It comes down to personal preference.
Do you want to use a ballistic, MOA, or MIL reticle or would you prefer to dial?

Dan, Most long range target shooter don't want their reticle to enlarging when they dial up the magnification, because a heavy reticle or mil-dot will completely cover the X ring at 1000 yds, it will do the same on prairie dogs at long ranges. I have several Springfield Armory's mil-spec Government model mil-dot scopes, great glass for the price. But I can't dial them above 10 power out past 600yds and shoot the mil-dots as the dot will completely cover up a prairie dog at that distance. Luckily the x-hairs are fine so If I use the dials and click I can crank them all the way up to 20x and still see the dogs. And as xphunter stated there no substitute for clicking for dialing in on small objects at known distances that how you'll achieve your best repeatable accuracy.

I like to click up. But I am having a hard time finding a good scope. I would like a 6x24 fine line retical with the click lines on the turrents, so I know where I am at on the scope. All I can find are bench rest scopes that dont have the lines on the turrents. My price range is 300 to 400. I know I could buy the turrents to put on, but I really didnt want to go that route. Looks like I will have to though.
