Daughter running her springer behind the house in a patch of woods. Lost track of him and eventually came upon him nose to nose with a skunk, and they both went their own way, with out dog getting sprayed ! Unbelievable.

Daughter had 2 boxers that would run with the skunks at night time, usually got sprayed on a regular basis as well. Dogs were usually house dogs at night time, but sometimes they got to sleep outside. LOL.

Old shepard mix I had hot sprayed one night ...
Cleaned her up the next day, only to ha e her get sprayed again a few days later.....

Same dog also 2 days in a row with porcupine....
Slow learner.

You folks are all just too funny ! Although this happened 2 days ago, I entered this story because (1).. it's true and (2) she will read your comments and laugh. We all need that in the dead of winter, especially since I cannot plant my garden or watch my peach trees grow for another 2 months. Thanks people...

The only luck I've had is still being being alive at 86, and once in awhile..( a great while)... shooting a "1".

Thanks for that. We used to use tomato juice.. (back in the olden days) Didn't work worth a crap .

I think my old Blue Heeler, "Cowgirl" was addicted to skunk spray. Always wanted to be downwind before you pet her or your hand would stink for a day.

All comes down to experience the springer had none the skunk had plenty. When you got the big gun you don't have to use it if you don't need to.

First time Java was sprayed wife called neighbors to see if they had peroxide and one said they had bottle of store bought solution. Brian their oldest son brought it over, I said thanks and he said he would help wash Java. I said are you crazy go home!!!! He said he washed their dog when it was spayed.
I told Brian I thought Java got sprayed in the mouth so he bends over and opens Java’s mouth and said oh man I think he burped in my face!
Poor kid woke up 2-3 am throwing up and missed school that day. He said he felt sick to his stomach when he went home from the skunk smell. Let me tell you it is nasty smell up close.

I dunno. The only time I ever had real trouble with one was when I invaded it’s space with about 10 .22LR. That was a bad decision. I didn’t get sprayed, but the close proximity of ~15 feet was enough that my skin smelled for a day or three.

Sorta ugly. It’s much more like a chemical spill at short range.

I had the best dog that ever walked this earth, Trigger a black mouthed cur. She came home limping and had a bunch of small bloody holes on her nose one day. W doctored on her and after a few days her limp was worse so she went to the vet. He dug around in the paw she was limping on and pulled out a big K9 tooth from a raccoon that had broken off in her foot after a struggle. When we pulled into the yard from the vet she busted loose from my daughter and disappeared into the woods behind the house. About 15 miutes later she shows up very proud of herself with a raccoon head in her mouth. Over the rest of the afternoon she assembled most of a raccoon in pieces in the yard. She killed many more coons over the years but never got even a scratch after the first one. your daughters good fortune was not luck , but an act of God I think.

A friend of "Crazy Horse" that lives in the county told her one day she looked out of her kitchen window to see her three year old petting a skunk ! What do you do ?

“Antidote’s” hydrogen peroxide (the extra oxygen neutralizes the sulphur) and baking soda, ‘cause the stuff’s acidic too.

Do NOT take or administer internally! For external use or washing clothes - or critters.

Maybe even 3 year olds....

I have used the Recipe that JayHH16818 posted. It DOES WORK!!! I keeping the ingrediencies in stock in my cupboard.
